As some may know I'm running a competition on www dot officialtwitters dot com / info
it has 3 prizes from Phillip Schofield, Duncan Bannatyne and Danielle Lloyd.

In the first week, 500 people entered. There is now a week left in the competition and I'd like your opinion on how to get this out to more people.

I sent out press releases to all major uk papers and the celebrities who sent me the prizes also tweeted about it.

Any other suggestions on how to make this competition more well known to uk citizens within a week?

Yep, it's been done. The USA (United Schutzhund Association (Schutzhund & German shepherd club that stands by the breeding standards and ethics set forth by Germany, Max von Stephanitz, and the FCI) has changed their bylaws so no member can be a member of any "competing" German shepherd club in the United States.

(To avoid confusion - I'll use USA for United Schutzhund Club and US for United States).

This is clearly targeted towards the GSDCA-WDA (German Shepherd Dog Club of America - Working Dog Association - 99% of the German shepherds you see in the show ring are part of this club - supported by AKC (American Kennel Club) where they breed for looks and usually ignore working ability.

This is a clear message from USA stating that all German shepherds must also be able to work (which is good in my book - they ARE shepherds first, beauty pageant contestants second).

The big question is where will the WUSV (World German Shepherd club) stand in this? Currently, they back GSDCA-WDA as the GSD club in the US so they'll have to make a decision: stick with GSDCA-WDA and keep the membership or move over to USA to stand by their ethics and breeding standards.

I am pretty sure that AKC will continue to back GSDCA-WDA since there are so many "Americanized" German shepherd members plus the GSDCA-WDA has made it clear that ethics are not that important by allowing puppy mills membership (yes, they currently have one).

As far as I know this does not affect DVG ([Deutscher Verband der Gebrauchshundsportvereine - loosely translated to "German federation of the customs dog sport associations" since DVG is not a GSD club but an all breed club.

Personally, I hope this "wakes" people up to the truth about the breed and how it's been practically destroyed in the US.

Here is the source:
http://www.germanshepherddog.com/doc...Amendments.pdf

(Not by site but a popular GSD site - I'm trying to find it from USA themselves)

The dog world has seen similar before. Until the late 1950s the Belgian shepherd was seen as one breed in the AKC but was then split amongst 3 breeds (malinois, tervuern, and groenendale - while the laekenois was left out of the loop). It's the same dog, just different breeding (in UKC and IKC they're all shown as the same breed).

http://www.belgianlaekenoisclub.us/history.htm

http://www.history.com/content/wwii-in-hd/videos

WWII in HD is the first-ever World War II documentary presented in full, immersive HD color. Culled from thousands of hours of lost and rare color archival footage gathered from a worldwide search through basements and archives, WWII in HD will change the way the world sees this defining conflict. Using footage never before seen by most Americans--converted to HD for unprecedented clarity--viewers will experience the war as if they were actually there, surrounded by the real sights and sounds of the battlefields. Along the way they'll meet a diverse group of soldiers whose wartime diaries and journals show in visceral detail what the war was really like.

I've had two WDs go out (heat issues) in a row - one was less than 2 years old and the other was less than 2.5 years old. One was a 5400 RpM 500GB and the other was a 7200 RpM 160 GB. IMO drives like this should last longer than that.

Both were Western Digital. I used to love their drives but due to this and I've seen a higher percentage of them fail at work (mostly laptops) I'm thinking of going with a new vendor (I'm very brand loyal).

At work I think most of our drives are WD, Seagate, Samsung, Hitachi, and Fujitsu. I see Hitachi and Fijutsu drives fail all the time and an increasing number of WD drives (the drives are either 5400 RpM IDE (older laptops) or 5400 / 7200 RpM SATA - all 2.5").

This leaves Samsung and Seagate. I had a Seagate SSD (USB) and it worked great for years until the cable started to wear out and I've never had a Samsung drive (as far as I know).

Any suggestions on who the top / most reliable vendor is?

Plan To Give Test Points For Cash Nixed

GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- A North Carolina principal has decided to retire after school district leaders halted the cash-for-grades fundraiser she approved.

Wayne County Public Schools said Friday that Rosewood Middle School principal Susie Shepherd has gone on leave for the rest of the month and will retire at the beginning of December.

The Goldsboro middle school had planned to allow students to get 20 test points in exchange for a $20 donation. Shepherd says she approved the idea after a parent advisory council presented it as a way to raise money.

School district officials stopped the fundraiser this week, saying no students will get extra credit and any donations will be returned.

The district said a new principal is expected to be named next week.

What makes this even more hilarious is this was a plan crafted by the parent advisory committee.
