Goatse.ca is kind of a special domain. If you’ve been on the internet long, you’ve probably had the (dis)pleasure of being “goatse’d.” The site first showed up around 1999 under the name of goatse.cx, displaying a shocking image. The site lasted as a popular shock site until 1994 when it was closed down, and I picked up the .ca to be the unofficial mirror.

I believe there are several mirrors around, but mine is by far the most widely visited. Wikipedia redirects a search for goatse.ca to the goatse.cx entry, having become almost synonymous in recent years. A quote from that entry:

“In recent times the website has been rehosted as www.goatse.ca. The .ca suffix implies that the website is now hosted in Canada, although it is unknown at this time if www.goatse.ca is "official" and was hosted by the original owners of www.goatse.cx; however, it remains a popular mirror of the site.” [Wikipedia]

Okay, and now onto the interesting business stuff:

500-700 Uniques / day, spikes of up to 808, 775, etc.

As you can see from the screenshots, the site experiences spikes about once a week that can be up to 800 visitors. These spikes are due to the domain being posted on major forums to shock people who unwittingly click the link. Some of our top referrers are forums forums.somethingawful.com, and genmay.net, some of the biggest on the web.

The majority of traffic is direct-entry.

Due to the unique nature of this site, you could really take it in any direction you wanted, and could drive traffic higher quickly with a few well placed forum posts or ads. The site could be kept as is and ads set up, or it could be turned into a forum with ads. The most profitable would likely be ads pointing to other prank or joke pages, or silly/crazy videos. The choice is yours, and there are many possibilities.

Traffic has been constant for years and will likely remain so.
