Didn't several of these sell at a recent Rick Latona auction?

Any buyers here on the forum willing to report what the actual traffic stats are?

Well, in what now seems to be now an “official continuing saga”, the .cm registry has postponed for a second time, the ‘Go Live’ registration period, which was to begin at 8pm EST tonight.

Once again the delay seems to be due to “technical issues”.

Once again the postponement was announced just minutes before the “Go Live” was to go live.

(thanks to our friends at Moniker.com for passing this information on to us)

I don’t know about you, but for me this is becoming quite scary.

It seems like the .cm registry is over its head, as it is postponing the Go Live registration period, yet again.

I estimate traffic to be 1/1000th of the .com version, but that is just my estimate based on many many statistics out there. The best it can possibly be is 1/300th.

Anyway, a few things:

Rick Latona auctioned domains went much cheaper than I imagined. I thought it would be one of those .mobi/.eu hyped auctions, but apparently after the economy tanked for a bit, buyers now spend on things they know will be worthwhile. The auction results were pretty much on target with what is the top TOP price I'd pay as a buyer for these domains based on traffic estimates. And when I say TOP, I mean TOP TOP price.

I do not think there are many .CM domains registered. I think NETCOM is trying to figure out the traffic on these last minute or something crazy like that. Only top 1000 sites in the world would get decent traffic on .cm at these price levels. Everything else wouldn't be worthwhile at the current minimum registration fees.

If it were $7 per domain, things would be different. But minimum commitment is about $220-$250 per domain, and that's if it doesn't hit any auctions.

To be honest, whoever made the decision to stop wildcarding/parking all the .CM domains has made a very terrible mistake for themselves as a business person. But that's their problem.

I hope people get to register .CM domains at all. It may be something where they have figured out that perhaps registration isn't yielding them what they expected....

I was going to be one of these registrants on maybe just a few domains, but it doesn't seem like I will be one anymore. CM gave me strange feeling even before all these auctions and landrushes.

Let's face it, CM registry grossed 100k on some of its top generics. After Latona split, maybe 50k. After CoCCA and top registry fees, probably 40k. That is not much for some of the top generics for a TLD. I'd be thinking of a backup plan if I were .cm registry at this point. Because doesn't seem like user registrations are going to be their #1 business.

Just found this list via:

http://www.internetideas.net/blog/do...ction-results/

The Rick Latona Auction of .CM domains is closed with a total of $103,850 in sales.

cars.cm $35,500
jobs.cm $10,000
drugstore.cm $5,000
games.cm $5,000
juegos.cm $5,000
loan.cm $5,000
401k.cm $8,250
abc.cm $1,200
apartmentguide.cm $1,200
australia.cm $1,500
bodybuilding.cm $3,600
boston.cm $4,100
buy.cm $1,700
canada.cm $2,300
date.cm $1,000
elsalvador.cm $1,000
fling.cm $1,800
forrent.cm $1,000
king.cm $1,000
lasvegas.cm $3,200
maps.cm $2,400
musica.cm $1,900

Games.cm and Buy.cm seem like a fair gamble for a speculator with deep pockets. Wonder what the actual traffic stats are for these domains?

Also, I would be a bit concerned about TM issues.

The truth is, traffic is extremely low on .cm domains unless the site in the .com version gets millions of type-in visitors, as in tens of millions...I had the chance to experiment with a few high profile .cm traffic names in the past and they made next to nothing revenue wise - and people seem to click way less because they seem to realize they misspelled the .com and you have to realize there is alot of negative press & news surrounding the .cm extension, literally everyone and their mom knows about it, even non-domainers. The vast majority of these names are a complete waste of money & time and most will get taken away sooner than later..many companies & tm lawyers are taking a keen interest in this whole disorganized spectacle just waiting to see who gets what before the tm disputes all start getting filed.

Sex.cm for example might be lucky to get 10 hits per day max (and literally 75% of them will just bounce off right away and realize their error), and then maybe you will be lucky to get a 10% ctr from the remaining few hits per day max (if that)..at a penny or two a click. Blah.

Alot of people will be losing alot of money. God bless them.

My math based on some names I tested says total typo traffic is less than 0.1% of overall type-ins of the .com version...but remember, even when a site gets say 1 million uniques per month, only some of that traffic is type-in. Most sites get the majority of their traffic from major search engines & advertising links & banners. Like I said..the numbers are really really low..something, but tiny.

Vast majority of .cm domains will not earn back reg fee per year.

Not only that but opendns as well as many ISP dns servers will automatically redirect people to the proper .com version or show their own ads.

My math says 0.3~0.5%, long time ago when OVT still worked I was comparning google.com versus google.cm, yahoo.com versus yahoo.cm etc

Google.cm is receiving SIGNIFICANT traffic

Back in June 2007, snicksnack stated that:

"cars.cm for example gets on average 100 uniques per day."

Here is a link to the old DNForum sales thread:

http://www.dnforum.com/f283/some-gen...ad-233896.html

Now Cars.cm recently sold at auction for $35,500.

According to Compete.com, Cars.com (The .com!!) receives 3,520,093 unique monthly visitors.

100 visitors a day for the .cm version.. not too impressive of an investment.

Like I said..just about 0.1% of the .com

Definitely not a good buy when you realize people DO NOT want to be there...don't be fooled into thinking it is "generic traffic" it's all typo..and the stick rate is extremely low.

Denny, yes it USED to be higher...but numbers have dropped somewhat...and continue to due to browser "improvements" and auto-correcting of the .com extension. Plus, more traffic than ever is coming from search engines..not type-ins. With lower type-ins you get lowers .cm hits.

Look at this waste of money:

The registry should have put a marketing spin on the .cm extension such as:

.CM = .Com Junior

Kind of like the Whopper and Whopper Jr. (Burger King)

In this way, the registry wouldn't be selling the cyber squatting nature of the extension.

Just my two cents.

well, if you park this domain you could make 10 cents per day (and you have to be lucky)

$0.10 in a day
$3.00 in a month
$36 in a year

1,416 years x $36 = 50,976

1,416 years to recover the invested capital

By the way:

Domain Name........Type........Bidders........High Bid........Time Left

sex.cm.................Private.......198.......... $51,100........19h 27m
porn.cm...............Private........123.......... $9,400........19h 37m
insurance.cm........Private........113...........$ 5,100........19h 42m
youporn.cm..........Private..........84..........$ 4,800........20h 12m
