Is there a set standard or time?

Suspended? It usually goes pending delete for 5-7 days and then deletes.

it is held back not by the registar but the supervisory body over the .co.uk registry. That is why business.co.uk stays "suspended", among other names. It can be infinite holding. Dun bother.. Just go for other names.

It's not about business.co.uk particularly... It's about co.uk domains. The point is that I've seen this several times. What is the issue?

Is there a difference between hot names and normal names? I read somewhere a blogger said he waited 75 days to snap an expired hot domain.

Hot domaisn only means domains having high demand because of heavy traffic, high revenue earnings etc.

Check this out... NEWS about Business.co.uk straight from the horse's mouth.

Business.co.uk shows SUSPENDED. Fine. According to NIC.UK, printed publically on their website as part of their Policy, their Terms of Service, they say that a unrenewd domain will be Suspended for 60 days, at which point the domain will be retunred to the Public Pool.

Fast Forward 101 days and counting... Business.co.uk is STILL suspended.

Many have speculated that it is simply NIC.UK pulling a ENOM and scraping off PPC revenues for as long as they can. Others suspect something more sinister.

I got tired of all the speculation and decided to get some answers. I wrote NIC.UK about this Buisness.co.uk business... I pointed out that according to their own policy, the domains are to become available after 60 days of suspension and this domain is WAY beyond the term.

Here is the reply of NIC.UK Registrant Advisor, Philip Sardar:

Thank you for your e-mail

When a domain is SUSPENDED. it means it is currently registered however is blocked so the current registrant is unable to use the domain. Suspended domain names are NOT available to register.

With regards to 'business.co.uk', we are currently in talks with the current registrants. Depending on the out come of these talks, the domains will be cancelled or the suspension lifted accordingly.

Unfortunately we are unable to give you any time scales.

If you have any further questions please let me know.

So what Special Status do you need to be allowed a continued discussion about renewing a domain you let expire? If it were any one of us, "SOL buddy!"

So it appears that NIC.UK negotiating for itself a heapin' helpin of the Green stuff? Ransoming back the domain to the previous owners? That would be sizably MORE than a new hand reg fee, which is their alternative if it goes back to the public pool.

In the final analysys, NIC.UK is either:

Breaking their own policy in order to turn a profit. (and there are MORE .co.uk domains in this endless loop as well)

or

Not being honest about what is going on.

Either way, that is the latest.

Which TLD is this? "suspended" is not the same as "pending deleted". If this is from the registry whois (which is where you should check, and not the registrar whois), then this is most likely a UK domain, could you please confirm?

Exactly as GoPC says, if the name is a big or hot name, call what you will, there will be alot of eyes on it, so...make you can make your guesses..

Just be aware that registrars and registries have their own terms on how to deal
with certain issues. How one handles something isn't necessarily done the same
way with another.

GoPC's posted response from nic.uk suggests the domain name had some legal
issues. When a domain name is "suspended", it won't follow its usual life cycle
pending resolution of any and all disputes the domain name and any and all
parties concerned have encountered.

Unfortunately registrars and registries don't always volunteer very specific
info to third parties not listed on the domain name's registration record. They
will usually tell only so much, and don't expect them to tell you completely
and exactly what the dispute's about.

I've seen netsol hold an expired name for more than a year before they finally
unlocked it. It was recently transferred and renewed by its new registrant
after a legal dispute was settled.
