Singular or Plural domain name: which one better?

Which one has better resell value?
For example,
Box.com or boxes.com?
Site.com or sites.com?
Link.com or links.com?
Developer or developers.com?

Both is the best if you can get them.

In the case of ecomerce and products plural is prefered. Boxs is more valuable in this case than Box. Sites and Links work best to - most people search for more than one site or link.

In most other cases - singular rules, and are also more valuable. Lot's of valuable words do not work in plural eaither.

Re: Singular or Plural domain name: which one better?

As a general rule of thumb, singular is better. (at least in my experience). Obviolusy there are exceptions where the plural always makes better sense: e.g. Physic -vs- Physics

I negotiated one deal where the buyer seemed VERY knowledgeable do he gained my respect immediately. he claimed that the plural versions of names get about 1/3 less hits than the singular counterpart. However, I do not own a singular and plural of a decent .com name to verify this claim.

When I purchase, I make no consideration to plurals it .COM. In .NET I will shy away from some plurals. In .ORG, I *usually* will only buy the singular version.

My (undervalued) 1 cent.

-Bob

Best to get both, if you can. Plurals can get more, or less....it depends on the word.

Of the above examples I only prefer the singular in box.com.

ALWAYS get them both, if possible. Send all your traffic to the one you prefer best. Examples: www.mydomains.com, www.shortname.com. It makes good business sense. You don't have to renew one of them, but try getting the one back you let slip away because you didn't want both at the time - especially if you find yourself with a gem.

If the name is really good, it is very hard to get both singular and plural versions though..
