Country: | Johnm:"What are the chances that the people will miss their re-registration?" Well it depends on the state of the name now. How far out is the renewal date? This may be a factor, however it ammazes me how late people leave their renewals on great names Is it an active, thriving website? If it is, chances are slim to none Is it active but little or no traffic? Chances are a little better Is it being used as a redirect to another site? Many domain holders forget/miss these as e-mail etc have changed Is it a dead address? This may be your best indicator that it has a good chance to drop What's the history of the addy? www.archive.org/ waybackmachine cheers

Country: | Its a crapshoot John. If its a really great name you can guarantee more than a few people are monitoring it and the players with the deepest pockets generally win. There is the odd victory by the little guy eg. ad.net, but for the most part your budget dictates your success. |

DNF$: 2,581 Location: NYC | There was a very good name which had expired but was not dropped for a while and someone else had a snap on it. So I sent an offer to the admin contact to renew and transfer it for $100 plus renewal fees. He promptly renewed it and thanked me for preventing his loss of a prime name. There are all kind of people around... BTW , I have snapped some real good ones with Snapnames

But around what proportion of quality expiring names do you get success on? Basically I am asking what proportion of folks renew their undeveloped prime names in the last little while? | |

| Gold Lifetime Member | Well you will have a good chance with Snapnames.... it's probably the best choice of grabbing a domain name using services available to end-user... Of course, there is a lot of competition with good domain names but hey.. if you can't afford private speculator services or domain real price..... |

| Gold Lifetime Member | Let me put the question another way: Has anyone here ever gotten a valuable name via snapnames? Does anyone known anyone else who has? Because on one hand it seems it must happen for snapnames to be in business, yet on the other hand it seems hopelessly stupid for someone to let a good registration slip. And question: don't they get renewal notices? |
