Anyone wanting to see what search engines are looking at should read this article:
http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/meta.html
The meta keywords tag is pretty much dead and ignored due to abuse. However, some meta tags are used. description is used often as the paragraph under search results by altavista and some others. the Title html tag is probably the most important, followed by the text in a large type header on a page.
Actually keywords are better placed in your page content rather than in meta tags. I've heard some search engines will even remove your site if it finds a keyword meta tag without the words actually on the readable page.
maybe i can help clarify a little. I spend most of the day working with google and their serps. there's a great forum at webmasterworld.com if any of you want to learn more.
google does use meta tags, but only in the description and even then, if you're listed in dmoz then that description trumps all. incoming links are what you need to work on, from sites that are like your site themewise and with keywords in the anchor text.
i highly advise against signing guestbooks, google knows about this and it won't help you at all...may even get you banned PR0. good luck
be sure to check also forum on searchengineforums.com
