Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!I have a .com domain that I am planning to develop -- perfect for my own needs. I also own the .net and .org.
I have been approached by a person interested in buying the .com at a lowball price but obviously I'm not interested at all in selling. However, this person will consider buying the .org from me.
The business seems to be very different from mine, so I'm wondering if it makes any sense to pursue a negotiation around the .org name or just hang on to it. I bought the .net and .org just recently when I thought it might be important to have them all. Now I think that I probably don't need the .org since branding conflicts do not seem to be at stake.
Any suggestions from the experienced Domainers here on the best way to proceed?
Regards,
Tom

OK, I can do that easily. As a newcomer to this business, can you lay out the issues for me here? Are they simply that I risk the loss of branding and development potential of the name even though I retain the .com and .net?
Yes, especially if you plan to offer commercial services & in order to protect your trademark from dilution. In fact, if I were you I'd buy the .info/.us/.biz as well
Got it. Thanks.

GoDaddy should be sending you a big fat referral fee any time now. :smartass: Heh. Check your mail.
Now off to learn about branding potential and options . . .![]()
yeah, depends on how big you want to be
So, the bigger your potential, the more of the main .extensions you want to snag? Is that how this market goes?
Depends on how big you want to be and how big your offerer are.
If you do not intend to grow very big, .com .net is sufficient.
If you think your offerer will grow very big, selling the .org to them is a good thing.
Firstly, you might get their visitors because some of their visitors could have type in .com
Secondly, if you do not grow big and they grow very BIG, they might even consider taking over your .com/.net domains at a high price.
Of cos, all the above are just my opinions.
Well, I've bought all of the main extensions. Anybody here planning to be REALLY BIG who is interested in buying a .org?![]()
Thanks for the pespective, skylight. It helps provide some good orientation in thinking about branding and marketing.
