Angry Anybody having problems with C-PANEL?

Is anyone using C-Panel and if you are have you had any problems with it?

#1
I am finding that when I try to delete files they do not delete but yet when I try to delete them it says they aren't there but they are listed, I've tried renaming them and it says they're not there but they are listed.

#2
When I try to edit my files in HTML right on the site, I save and then it shows up the edited way except it won't show the .jpg's.
then when I try to edit again the .jpg's and everything I changed and saved previously is back to the original content and not changed at all, so I have to change everything again.

#3
I haven't been able to get one .jpg to show up. I even went in and set the extensions again thinking that might be the problem.
Getting a gif to show up is no problem though.
I went into the main "www" folder and set the permissions for read. write and execute for all files for me and read and execute for groups and everyone else, I also tried it without execute for groups and everyone else. I have done this on every folder and every file.I don't have anything password protected.

#4
Also, when I do cange the permissions from the settings that were on the site when they set it up, they never really change.
For instance, I set the permissions on the index.html or .htm (tried both) then try to view in browser, no go. Then I go back to check the permissions and they are still set on the previous settings, like I never changed and saved them at all.
I've also tried after changing a file or permission setting, refreshing the page in C-Panel before previewing the changes and I've also emptied my cookies, temp internet files, and cleared my history before previewing and nothing works.

Has anybody else had simular problems and?
Is this C-PANEL flawed or does it sound as if it has a worm in it or something?
I ran several checks on my computer and I am virus and worm free.

ONE NOTE*** I did notice that my computer won't defragement my hard drive, could this be related? Any tips would be helpful.
Needless to say I am aggravated and I'm considering the hosting recommendations the fellow members posted earlier.

Anyone having simular problems with C-Panel?
Let us know!

Thanks for your time and imput domainers.
scjollie.

I think you are talking about cPanel's File Manager?

Never use ANY control panel's file manager - unless you have to. Editing HTML with a file manager is even harder than useing NotePad, even experts hesitate to do that.

NetScape Composer and FrontPage express - and other HTML editors are free and available at www.DownLoad.com

DotComster,
Yes I am talking about the file manager.
The only reason I use the html editor is because sometimes you hate to pull out a html editor if you want to correct maybe a mispedded word or change a pic. I have used them in the past at another hosting company and it worked fine for about 2 years.
I'm glad you told me because this C-Panel thing is so over rated in my book. Next time i will just use an FTP Program and I will make all my adjustments in evrsoft.
Thanks for your post.

I would recomend using a FTP program when you upload files. That will save you a lot of time in the long run, especially for multiple files uploading. Also for your graphics, you should check if there is a image folder. Graphics are usually put there. Not auctomatically though

Good luck!

Maybe the problem your having with jpg's, is that your are confusing ".jpg" with ".jpeg". Also, if a file is called:

image.JPG

but you call on "image.jpg", it might not show up simply because the .jpg is .JPG. I hope that makes sense.

Also, I would suggestion you use a FTP program to upload files. WS_FTP LE is a free program, and works great.

If your looking for a good html editor, "Macromedia Homesite 5" is by far the best in my opinion.

Hi,

I agree that CPanel's file manager isn't the best thing on the planet, but it should be able to handle what you're trying to do. Sounds like either a CPanel bug (if so, I'd check the build your host has with the latest build on http://forums.cpanel.net) or maybe your account on the server has become corrupt.

HTH

another way to get round it is to put a . befor the filename ... example if you have hi.jpg

rename to .hi.jpg

that will hide it from the server and will not appear

that was my old trick
