server-side? AWStats does the job. It's built into the CPanel distro.
You can also analyze your logs using the famous WebTrends software from http://www.webtrends.com

AWStats and Logview seem to be the best (free) possibilities to start. Any other possibilities to look into?
thanks

extremetracking.com is nice because all you have to do is create a free account, copy the code and throw it up on your ssi. That way it doesnt mess with your domlogs and all that.
I personally like Google Analytics because of its visual aspect; you can actually see your data, as opposed to reading it. It is much more visible and understandable than any AWStats data that I have seen.
Just my two cents.
extremetracking.com and Google Analytics are not really log file amalyzers, they are visitor trackers. They require sending data to these companies and you need to put web bugs on the pages.
AWstats can be tweaked quite a bit if you play with the config file.

AWstats is far and away #1 and does a very good detailed job telling you most everything you want to know about your stats and visits in a very easy to use format in both text and nice graphics. Next in ease of use and power is Weblizer, also good. Both are free with many servers.
WebTrends is also popular but far too complex to use and significantly high cost too. It's mostly used with large commercial sites and big firms who do not care about the cost.
Google Analytics is not a real log stats analyzer so in a different category.

If you use cpanel. them awstats is the best I think. It is on the server side, not on client side like google analytics. The reports are also very easy to understand and generate...

Webalizer is also good. It's also built into the CPanel distro.
I was intrigued by the title of this thread.
Suppose I want to run my own dns server for my domains. Where do I start? I only found 1 dns server cgi program at hotscripts.com. Are there others? What are the requirements for Hosting?
Then having got that running. Can I get AWSTATS to analyse each domains traffic separately on the dns server? Would this concept even work?
If you use Windows server you can use Simple DNS Plus. It has a log file analyzer script that comes with it. I used to run secondary DNS on my home computer with a cable modem and I just left the computer on all the time. Any Windows machine with a fixed IP will do.
