Question Best monetizing methods and ROI

Hi There

I know these sort of questions were asked before and discussed in various threads, but I must admit that I am a newby as far as domain names are concerned and don't really understand all the in's and out's yet.
I would therefore like to list all the various options in one go and I hope you guys & girls could give me some advise!

I have been busy for roughly 3 weeks now reading about all forums and websites on this topic (and probably more confused) and found the following:

1. Dropped names can be difficult to obtain unless you go via Snapnames.com or namewinner.com
2. Money could be earned, but you need plenty of domains.
3. You won't really loose money, mainly time if something doesn't work.

Now for the BIG questions!

What is the best Return On Investment as far as you guys are concerned?
And then:
How many domains do you need for each option to create a reasonable income of say 1000 USD pm?
For example Pay per Click you need 2000 domains to earn an income of 1000 USD pm?
What would be your best guess or if possible actual experience?

What are the best options if I find a nice sounding name :
1. Pay per Click
2. Pay per Lead
3. Forward via a Enter page to an Affiliate site which is related to the name ie. Autos or Boats
4. Build a nice site with own content and maybe a link to an affiliate or two/three and live of the income
5. Build a nice site with own content and maybe a link to an affiliate or two/three and SELL again when completed
6. Pay for searches ie. AllClicks,7Search, etc
7. Sell Domain name immediately again on ebay or somewhere else

What are the best options if I find a HIGH Traffic name and maybe also listed on Yahoo/DMOZ:

There are possibilities of having Enter (HTML page with one ENTER link with your affiliate link) Pages with maybe a choice of 2-3 links. One to Search Engine, one to FREEBIEs which link to Pay per Lead sites and then one link to the content site so that you can give a visitor a choice what he wants to do.
Any pro's/con's on this idea?

Does a domain with high traffic die away after a couple of months, or does it vary from domain to domain?
What is the average live span of a domain if indeed die away?

Well I hope I don't get flamed for asking these questions and that some kind soul/s will getting me on the right path!

best regards and happy hunting!
