    Bulk Domain Whois

Anyone here can guide me on this?
Is it ok to query whois (for availability) on a list of 5000 domain names
direct from one's own server ?
Not really using another site's//scripts whois tool....

Further on, if anynoe has experience with this, how long does it take to complete a list of 1000/5000 names ?

    Thanks....

    Re: Bulk Domain Whois

Depends completely on the domain extension. Usually the gTLDs have no restriction. The ccTLDs all have their own rules. The most liberal ones will let you query as much as you like. The most strict one I know is .NL where you can only query 15 domains per day.

If you use "Watch My Domains Pro" you can have your 5000 domains queried in about 15 or 20 minutes.

Thanks so much for that hanogl !
I did dld the trial over a yr ago.
Remember that it could do it.
    But never knew the speed.
Thanks for that very important stat !

Now, I'll need to decide whether to purcahse it or just do the normal gTLD lookup !

Remember that you have to finetune it to get that speed. For .com etc I use 10 threads, 1/second.

    Re: Bulk Domain Whois

is this 'Watch My Domains Pro; different/better to available domains pro?
AD Pro can also do this. although it is not very reliable for cctlds, and often crashes on win XP (although the latest update seems muc h more stable).

I also have AD Standard, with lots of similar problems as you describe for AD Pro. I strongly prefer WMD.
