    Changing CNAME....anyone?

    Hi,

I am trying to setup my www.HiPal.com . I am using www.oemmail.com for my email provider. I was told that I must change the MX and CNAME settings.

I can edit the MX in my cpanel but where do I go to change the CNAME? The Domain is registered with NameCheap. I dont see anywhere there where this can be changed.

    Can anyone help me out?

    Thanks,

    Mike

CNAME has nothing to do with email delivery itself. However oemmail service requires the following DNS record:
    themail.hipal.com IN CNAME WEB.OEMMAIL.COM
It means: host themail.hipal.com exists and has the same IP-address as WEB.OEMMAIL.COM
So you will have either website under http://themail.hipal.com address or pop3/smtp server names "themail.hipal.com" or both...
If you cannot find "CNAME" in your DNS control panel - this means that you most likely need to change DNS provider first. You may consider either free or paid DNS providers (there are many). So it would be separate from your Registrar and from your E-mail host.
I guess oemmail MAY provide DNS services as well, maybe not free though

I do have an "edit a DNS zone" & "edit an MX zone" link in my WHM panel, is this where I can change both the MX and CNAME?

I am just not sure which line I should be editing. There are a couple in there and a place near the bottom to add new entries.

OemMail doesnt go into to much detail about the DNS settings, it looks like they want you to pay them $20 to do it for you. I am sure its very simple and takes less then 30 seconds to do.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I am not sure what editing is allowed in case of your dns host, but the EXACT line in original zone file can be the following:

    themail IN CNAME WEB.OEMMAIL.COM.

This is in case if you have some sort of direct access to zone file via their "edit DNS zone" feature. I do not have an account with them, but you may post a screenshot of what you see... Or Addictive can edit this for you from your account, I can do so as well as I'm ISP
