Content Mangement System

I am getting prices to build a content management system.

I am looking a system where I can give permissions on a domain by domain basis to edit pages. the adminstrator would be able to set tempaltes colors, ect. on a domain by domain basis.

It would also have an ad system where I could publish throughout all the sites or domain by domain, rotate ads, etc.

Has anyone built one of these before? What kind of cost?

thanks

You're talking about nearly every open source CMS out there (permissions, templates, etc.) combined with OpenX (formerly OpenAds, formerly PHPAds New).

Look at Joomla, Drupal, MODx...

Go here to review just about every open source CMS under the sun...

http://www.opensourcecms.com/

Go here to do side by side comparisons of their features...

http://www.cmsmatrix.org/

Pricing will vary greatly depending on the features you want. A customized CMS can cost anywhere from low $X,XXX to mid/high $XXX,XXX. It all depends on what you want and who you get to build it.

Don't buy custom cms.
Use wordpress. It's free. Has all the features you'll ever need.

I do not agree with it - Wordpress is really good for the blogging however not an advisable script for CMS.

By the way, Keyword Factory if you want to try out Joomla, Drupal and other CMS softwares, you may do it for FREE at HumDomains. However you may need to buy a domain costing as low as $1.99 for .Info.

Check here : Make a CMS website

I have to reiterate what has been written here.

I use Joomla, which has already been recommended here, an excellent CMS. Drupal is also highly regarded, but have no experience. WordPress, which was mentioned here is excellent for blog only, for easy to setup and get running, but when you need something more powerful, than go with one of the previously mentioned CMS's

If you are planning on building numerous sites in the future. Spend your time learning one of the CMS's and go with that exclusively. Joomla has a steep learning curve. The more you get to know it the better.

I've used Drupal on countless projects, from simple ones to complex, and it's a software that would certainly meet your need. Save the $10k you'd have to pay to duplicate its function and start w/ what's already coded.

For Drupal, check out the modules section; it has more functionality than you've probably even considered yet.

thx,
m
