Medium to large bodies of water typically border large towns. Therefore, no one town or city can claim ownership of that body of water but the body of water is what connects many of those cities together in a common thread.
For instance, imagine a site of Lake Michigan that focuses on all the cities bordering the lake. Or a major river.
I just got an email alerting me that, as the owner of CurrituckSound.net, the .com would soon be available and for a price I could buy it from them.
Well, knowing that no one in their right mind(s) are going to buy every dropping name and THEN offer it up for sale, I checked and indeed it was available for reg fee.
The name is very significant to me being in North Carolina and knowing that megamillion playgrounds along the Currituck Sound - Duck, Carolla, Corava, Southern Shores, Whalehead...
I have a few others pertaining to the North Carolina coast that get very good type-in traffic and CTR.
Not only are these bodies of water mega-rich playgrounds, but the fishing, skiing, vacationing, packages, resorts potential is huge. What makes it better is if you personally know the rich history and potential of those areas bordering the body of water.
For me, this is an exciting addition to my collection of the "sounds" of coastal North Carolina.
I pass this along to perhaps show some potential in names in this. Even a major river or major interstate. No one place can claim ownership of the entity but you can sure cover massive amounts of geography with this names.
I've gotten plenty of names this way, other extensions, singular / plural, etc..
