    Developing names

I have 400 + names some of which are quite reasonable, never attempted to develop as I do not have the expertise and my learning abilities are somewhat limited as I am quite old, certainly in relation to most people here!

Anyway, what is the simplest step by step idiot proof way of developing some of my names in to something of value?

I have actually made a profit just selling names so the 400 + are basically paid for for a year or two. Would make sense to make them work a little harder!

I have the time as I am basically retired.

the simplest way is to match a domain with an idea. that that idea and go to either scriptlance.com or elance.com and pay someone under $100 to develop the site for you. Once that site is completed, move to the next one. That's what I am doing at the moment, I figure the smartest way to maximize a domains potential and earnings is to develop and just hold on to it. Also websites sell for a lot more then domains.

If you want to develop the site yourself but don't know any html or anything, get an editing program like dreamweaver... very very good program I hear (takes awhile to learn your way around it tho from what I've read), Frontpage is easier to learn but not nearly as good.

You are right, dot. Developing names are hell of a lot harder to do than just acquire names. Domain name acquirers are pretty much dreamers scavenging for names in the middle of the night, participating in endless landrushes, forever trawling forums like this to find a hidden gem and solace some comfort in like-minded people ---- hoping, and hoping, and hoping someday, that magical 'I want your domain for $1m cash" email will come along that will make them rich.

I think I am guilty of dreaming too much. But my dream is to develop. Won't matter anyhow though, you just got to shake yourself up from your natural apathy and comfort zone and laziness and dreamy state and JUST DO IT.

    Mole,

That is a GOOD mini-lecture and point! I needed that (and so do MANY, MANY of us here)! Now, I need to DO SOMETHING!!

As to the original question from dotus, I would probably invest in an HTML book, at least. Three years ago I made myself read CREATE YOUR FIRST WEB PAGE IN A WEEKEND by Stephen Callihan. His website is http://www.callihan.com. In general, I'd look for a relatively short book that teaches you the very basics rather than one of those 'door stops' that you'll never read anyway! There are many, many other books available but his was pretty painless for basic HTML. If you use Front Page, you do need to know some HTML as you do need to make some corrections and you may want to change a price on a web page, etc. HTML is just the beginning but with it, you can at least put SOMETHING up and use your knowledge to interface with other programs, etc.

    Best Wishes,

    Jon
