I hope you realize that Cpanel is a buggy and insecure piece of junk and that you're putting your clients at risk by using it. People get mad at me when I say that, but it needs to be said.

Secondly, I signed up for the free bronze hosting package but was never given the password for modernbill, so I used the "forgot password?" link to retrieve the password.

Then I tried to upload a file through FTP and got:

552 Transfer aborted. Disk quota exceeded

So I logged in through Cpanel and saw:

Disk usage 62.86 Megabytes
Disk space available -57.86 Megabytes

Then someone changed the FTP server from ProFTPD to PureFTPd and I couldn't log in anymore. Then the FTP server went down. Then it came back up. Then someone changed it back to ProFTPD.

Why doesn't anything ever work properly for me?

Do you realise how many people globally use CPanel with great success and very little problem? Your comments are misguided.

I hope you realize this is a free offer. Problems? Then don't spend the $0.00 monthly. Yes, your absence will hurt Adam's pockets a bit. But I am sure he can bare with one less $0.00 per month paying client. It will be hard initially, but he will make it. (At least I hope)

If you get the email with your Cpanel user name and password, then you can login into your account management system (http://www.styleproject.com/modernbill) with your registerd email address and the same password. From there, you can manage your billing information and your domains information(If you registerd it with us).
About the Cpanel,we've already made the ftp alive. You can try now.
Sorry for the inconvenice.

Just because people don't realize problems exist doesn't mean problems don't exist. What they don't know can't bother them. Many people that use Cpanel don't know how to manage a server without a control panel, so they don't realize the potential problems.

People get mad at me because they think I don't know what I'm talking about, just like you think my comments are misguided, but I'm speaking from my own experience, not the opinions of others.

Yes, all software has bugs, but Cpanel has too many of them. It's one of the buggiest pieces of software that I've ever come across, but the security problems concern me more than the bugs. I'm shocked at what people put up with these days.

If you're going to make sarcastic comments, at least understand my point before making them. My concern is for the paying clients as well as anything else on the server. These problems affect the entire server, not only the free clients.

My disk usage problem needs to be fixed. I can't upload anything if it thinks I've exceeded the quota. My user name is prgzbttb.

You are wrong - when you paid your membership fee you were not offered this service as a part of your membership. You already were a paid member and you were given the opportunity of this extra service - for free.

I cannot believe the moaning going on here over something that is being offered to all members for free!

This is a post I was going to make:

"Kids .. grow up .. it's friggin FREE! .. If you don't like it .. don't use it. Most here have their own hosting, but for some it may be something they can use... let it go. Some here should spend more time trying to make money... than wasting it on useless prose.

... ouch ... did I offend someone?"

I decided not to post it ...

I don't see anyone moaning, so you must be talking about me. I'm not complaining. I was simply stating the problems I encountered. To say "it's free; if you don't like it, don't use it" is silly because all I'm asking for is what was offered. I'm not asking for extras. I'm not complaining about the features. That's like offering 5 free photocopies per day but not having toner in the copy machine. I'm not asking for color photocopies. I'm not complaining that the copy machine is slow. I just want the copy machine to work like it should. Regardless of cost, what's the point of offering a service that doesn't work properly? If I am unable to upload, I cannot use the hosting provided. It's that simple.

As for Cpanel, that's a totally different issue. I'm not complaining about the use of Cpanel. I'm warning that the use of Cpanel puts the security of the users at risk. I'm concerned because I find most people that use Cpanel are oblivious to the security problems on their server, but nobody wants to believe me until I show them what they don't want to see. If my account is fixed, maybe I can show them some of these things. If you visit the web site, you will see that paid hosting is offered as well. I'm concerned about the security of the paying clients as well as anything else on the server.

First of all I appreciate the free hosting and have no problems with the cPanel, I have a couple of names hosted there. However it seems there is long stretches when I can't access my sites. I've been monitoring one of my domains at easymonitor.com, and I can only access my sites 82.83% of the time. The longest outages have been 34 hours and 20.5 hours. Is anyone else having problems? Everything else about StyleProject.com has been great, tech support, receiving passwords for cPanel, etc.

Thanks,
ED

HI Ed,

I *just* signed up for the service so I guess it is too early to compare notes regarding their "up" time etc. However, I could try and offer some insight from my other hosting accounts with various companies, from very expensive to almost free.

IMO, 83.% uptime is typical and not bad for a newcommer (am I wrong to assume that styleproject is a fairly new venture?). My Racksack does slightly better but it costs more too ;-) More expensive, dedicated servers are close to 99% but ther eis no such thing as 100% uptime IMO.

If I may add my 2 cents, I would use this free hosting package for a site not as important to you and your customers until the details are ironed out .

I know it will get better, as it almost always does!

*****
Thanks again for the free service DCG! I applied yesterday but I cannot find nameserver info for the new domain anywhere on the site or FAQ.

*****
I am sure the info will surface when the package will become "active".

Cheers!
