Question Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

Looking for your thoughts on Front Page vs. Dreamweaver. In plan to invest in one of these programs and your guidance would be appreciated.

Are there any programs other than these two that you would recommend?

Thank you!

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

Front page will no longer exist with the new Microsoft office so I wouldn't invest too much in it.

I would prefer Dreamweaver MX cause it is very muc user friendly and pages are created easily.

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

FP is terrible. DW is probably one of the best WYWIWYG html creators out there.

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

Apart from Frontpage and Dreamweaver, there is a program called Adobe GoLive. I think for professional web development, Dreamweaver is much more powerful and generates better source code.

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

The best program is Visual Studio from Microsoft. They have a FREE version called Visual Web Developer.

Available here:

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

If you want to spend no money just try:

http://www.nvu.com

it's open source and many people tell me that is good...

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

I'm just now checking out the NVU website. Thank you for the suggestion.

Anyone have any feedback on this open source software?

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

I make my living as a web developer and I have looked at NVU. God bless these open source folks but NVU is cobbled together by a few guys in their basement in their spare time. You have no idea when this product will be updated or how long it will be supported.

If you want a product which is state of the art and is used by the most successful web sites (i.e. match.com, careerbuilder.com), you need to be using ASP.NET by Microsoft.

Why anyone would consider NVU over the FREE Visual Web Developer from the good folks at Microsoft is beyone me.

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

Could I use Wordpress as a content management system for a simple site? And then use Dreamweaver, etc for more complete sites?

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

It's not a joke. I am still trying to figure this whole thing out. Pretty new to the domain world.

I understand that Dreamever is not a CMS and maybe I should have clarifed my earlier post. From what I have read Dreamever is the way to go for web development software.

However, I have read on other forums that for some basic sites, Wordpress can be used as a CMS. (Again basic sites.) I just wondered if anyone here had experience using Wordpress as a CMS.

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

Go dreamweaver....as a programmer it blows FP away...and if you are lucky, you can find it free on the web...although I am not saying you should do that. We programmers have to make our money.

Re: Front Page vs. Dreamweaver vs. ?

Since you're a newbie, I'd start with nvu. It's free and useful. Plus you can learn html with it.

If you find you like to dev then buy dw. Don't mess with fp.
