Unhappy The hardest part of development..

Getting people to follow though with their commitments to write some content, as they promised.

Seriously - I started a new site, people were all enthusiastic about it but then when the site was launched, not a single article has been written yet.

Well, I guess they don't want any free advertising?

I'm thinking maybe a forum. With enough traffic surely people will sign up little by little. Let them write it.

I say this in a very serious manner.

This is a forum of domainers.

I think 90%-95% of them do not care too much about sites or site contents.

That is too much like work.

Don't worry, I haven't asked anyone here and wasn't intending to. I just have my little clique of "experts" who I asked (and some committed to).

    Even greater reason to network.

There are a few peeps here that I would be happy to work with (and have) in link swaps. These are dependable and reliable people who have taken domain names to the site building phase.

I honestly have learned much here regarding some Joomla tips, WordPress tips, and now Xsitepro (I haven't forgotten you on this).

Beyond the opinions, the flame wars, the politics, etc - there is much to be learned here but finding those threads are becoming exceptionally rare.

With the current decline in parking and changes coming, it is even more important to create sites and network skills and talents.

Of course, I've been saying this for over three years and have seen very little of it openly. Of course, much does happen behind the forum eyes as individuals seek out other members. Between this forum and Mobility, I have learned so much in developing site skills. And now I have become part of teams and interests, organizations, study groups, and private ventures.

Its tough balancing all my responsibilities. But I also know if I do not learn new skills I will suffer and fail in generating revenue. Offers are still coming in (inquiries, mostly).

Utilizing off forum networks and networking also pays off.

I do not know what to call it, but I have often suggested a sub-forum for members to network and exchange links. I do understand this is primarily for domains so it is not a huge issue for me. As mentioned, there is plenty of activity in PM's, emails, DM's, and chats on and off the forum.

Yep, I've been networking but I am also being very selective about who I invite into this. I know a lot of people in this field, even some big names, but 99.99% of the people out there (and that's no exaggeration) are lemmings to the masses and tend to not realize the ethical standpoint nor the health standpoints of what is going on.

*lol* No problem, as with any application I'm sure the first one you do will be your worst one (or else what would be the point of learning?) and I'm sure it's better than what I'll do on average if I decide to get the package.

I fully agree. There is a ton of information on here (just like some other sites I used to frequent - and still do from time to time).

Utilizing off forum networks and networking also pays off.

I think that would be a great idea but it would need to be separate - maybe even a separate fee for this to weed out the people who would just spam that forum with their own agenda as opposed to truly trying to network.

I don't see it but I am sure this site sees hundreds of PMs every day from the long term / established members (not including the not so often posters, the new members, etc..) wanting to work together or pool resources. I'm guilty of that on several occasions.

draggar you forget the flip side. try wringing a content assignment out of someone who considers you a 24 hour fulltime q & a "how does the Internet work" resource to clear up all their questions instead of just delegating before you can just do the work and go away. i cannot tell you how many content assignments dry up and blow away because the domain owner just wanders off.

I have a client who has peppered me with emails by the minute since our first project, but can't operate a Hosting account to the poiint my credit card is on the hook for the payments because it's just too difficult for this gentleman to understand. I have over three hundred email items from this guy. I'm trying to finish work for other clients and i get like 40 emails from this guy. beep beep beep oh wait how does it work?

i support his goals, but at what point does a domainer learn to keep his hands off the pot while it cooks? if a content writer can get er done, why does the domainer's ego have to get in the way? Does the domain owner want a successfully integrated and professonally rendered site, or do they want the attention fo a fulltime nonpaid assistant to groom them minute by minute for weeks for under $100 worth of work?

Domainer missed opportunitiues to get traffic, links and seo

Not surprised about the poor networking because out of all the domainer blogs I have posted on (probably a few dozen in total) only 2 of them ever responded with a reciprocal post, one of my far too rare post responses was from Rick Latona

<rant> Some time ago I posted on your blog Doc Com but you never reciprocated to my blog which is a page rank 3, 8-year old domain with 100-200 visits a day on average. May I be so bold as to say that when a domainer or website operator posts it's a golden opportunity to drum up traffic and get links. I have even voluntarily put up links to blogs of other domainers including well known posters on the forums and asked for links back with no reply so eventually I took down their links. Really weird why they would not value the traffic from my blog and the improved SEO from relevant links. </rant>
