Honolulu.US launch

Thanks to the great work of forum member GTWeb, whom I hired for web design, I have launched www.Honolulu.us . I bought the domain from another forum member, Bob Connor "Domebase". I would be glad to get feedback on the site.

Thanks, Jordan. I wrote some, including the home page. Info Search Media, professional content writers, wrote the rest.

I am still waiting to hear from Yahoo. I sent them a request for a beta account a few weeks ago. Do you know how to get approved?

Re: Honolulu.US launch

A good way to get approved is give them 3 or 4 of your best domains which are also nice content rich websites. It's even better if they already are running Adsense on the sites so they can see you are an approved Adsense publisher. Also make sure your main website and email address used on the application form is your best website as far as domain quality and content goes. I was approved by YPN in early Sept.

Re: Honolulu.US launch

Howard, nice site and great domain!

It's always been my personal opinion that geographic/city .us domain names (pretty much the only ones that make sense with the extension) have always been undervalued. Would be curious to see how this pans out for you after several months, and what kind of ROI you see on it. You picked the right kind of place to develop for, plenty of bidders for hotels, travel, real estate in this kind of popular resort destination.

By "pretty much" I hope you include .info's too.

Great site! You're my inspiration for Manhattan.info

Nice site. Great potential to become "the" resource when looking to travel to Honolulu.

Re: Honolulu.US launch

It looks pretty good.

I think one area it might be improved is the top logo. The part "Your Guide to a Great City" seems a bit...blah, as it can apply to almost any city. If you can instead target it more towards something about Honolulu in particular, it might be more effective.

Otherwise, I like the layout --- it's very clean.

You might wish to experiment with the AdSense placement -- it might not be optimal according to the Heatmap at:

https://www.google.com/support/adsen...page=tips.html

George, Thanks for the comments.

The generality of the top logo is intentional. I own some other city.us and many city.info domains. If Honolulu.US works out well, then I will develop some more.

I hope to be switching to Yahoo ads soon. Will the same advice re Adsense apply to Yahoo ads?

Re: Honolulu.US launch

I believe the Heatmap should be similar, yes. It has to do more with eye movements when reading a page, rather than who is the underlying PPC provider.

BTW, there's a slightly different Heatmap for forum sites, as opposed to general websites. See:

http://adsense.blogspot.com/2005/10/...-tips-for.html

If DCG is reading this thread, I expect to see more ads in the top left region of DNForum soon!

Don't forget to add Honolulu, Hawaii has the highest price for gas in the US with $2.72

Re: Honolulu.US launch

Looks very good Howard. Great improvement over my original site, but at least the original site started the ball rolling. Now, with all your work, it should really gain momentum! If I had one suggestion, it would be some type of flower somewhere in among the wording logo at the top. Wonderful narrative... that does take time and effort... and should pay off.

Re: Honolulu.US launch

Another nice city site in the new-tld. Site looks pretty deep with lots of narration and relevant links. I'm guessing it's going to generate some good revenue. Not to mention the name itself is absolutely killer.
