If im understanding you right... you want NameGame.htm to be the first page you see when going to namegame.biz, just simply rename namegame.htm to index.html.

This is basic, I am sure. I have maintained a website before and written new pages for it but I have never started a site from scratch. I have hosing at Name Cheap's PeopleHost.COM. I have set up the FTP info and have loaded a basic page but the 'Index of' page is what comes up. To get the web page, you have to know to click on the right file.
The domain name is 'NameGame.BIZ'. The file to click on is 'NameGame.htm' or you need to go to http://namegame.biz/NameGame.htm. What the site is is a basic list of my domain names most of which are for sale. I wrote to People Host and got the service that you usually get on line, a reference to the (generally very good in their case) info that they have on their site. That worked to set up servers and FTP but not for 'page 1' assignment. I have lots of HTML, etc. books all of which are quite concerned with helping you write a great web page but, unfortunately, most seem to care little if you can get that page off of your computer and on to the internet!
Thanks for help with this exceedingly basic problem!
Best Wishes,
Jon![]()

Hi!
Thanks for your help! I did rename the main (and only as of now) page index.htm as was suggested. I also had the pages under the 'public-html' file but the main issue was the name, I think. It works now! Buy Domains watch out (haha)!
Thanks again,
Jon

Just as a note, default.htm or default.html also works on some servers
why not just do a simple redirect...
in php do <?php header("Location:http://www.yoursite.com/file.html"); ?> (in php)
OR
I saw a tutorial to do it in easy javascript on www.tutorialplace.com
Tyler Cruz schooled me in BW, so he won this until May 23rd, 2011 TylerCruz
Doing the redirect still requires an index page to add the redirect to.
If the user wants to keep NameGame.htm as it is, the best way would be to use .htaccess (if they can) and use
DirectoryIndex NameGame.htm
