How much would you charge for this type of job?

I guess the project would be similar to a watered down myspace. Customers would get their own page where they could edit certain fields and be able to upload a video. They would pay a yearly fee though. This isn't a social network site so its not as extensive as myspace. More of a site where people showcase their talent or portfolio then send people their link.

Also what programs do you know out there that are good for this? Something like joomla is what I'm looking for, I have heard of another site for this but I can't remember what it was.

several thousand dollars would be the going rate... you can cut a lot of corners by using Drupal and Joomla, but they'll have limitations. so it would really depend on what the owner wanted.

mind you, i've seen companies use millions in VC funding just to create a BS Myspace copy and just end up with something WORSE.

I'm the owner. I would be building it for me but I would rather have someone else to do it if I had the money.

I think the cost would depend on the functionality and complexity of the project but I am certain it can be achieved for few thousand dollars. Max 3 to 4K $$$.

Agree with groundctrl - Joomla and Drupla are great but there are certain limitations and personally I believe you can't beat good old php coding.

There are also some free "gnu" ones out there that will do the same thing. I have made a site out of this and it works just the same without the high cost. PM me if you want to know more. Granted there are plugins that cost a few dollars here and there and I am sure you could pay someone to install it
