How to set up forum as index page?

I currently have it set up as 1WebsiteNameForums1.com/forums (not the actual site name)

How do I make the forum my index page? to where my visitors can simply go to 1WebsiteNameForums1.com to access the forum?

Move everything from /folders directory into main directory? Might be easier to delete and reinstall into there.

Save this as index.php in the root folder

Quote:
<?
include("./forums/index.php");
?>

might work.

I originally tried saving the forum document as an index page, but It didn't seem to work. I then tried placing the entire folder over to the main home directory, that worked, but It wasn't in PHP format... The content was there, but there were no html mark-ups.

I just started getting into developing within the past few months, and I'm kind of learning as I go... If it helps... I'm using cpanel. The forum is a Fantastico script that is through SMF.

Right now the script is labeled Forums. Its located in the Public_HTML folder. There is a HOME folder which contains access-logs, mail, public_ftp, public_html, tmp, and www.

When I create a home page, and save it as index.html, and place it in the public_html folder, all is fine, and the homepage directs to the index page. But when I rename the "forums" script as Index.php, it doesn't resolve, and goes to a 404.

Thanks for your help guys... I'm sure its got something to do with what Im doing wrong, as I said... I'm new at this. Thanks again...

Re-Install to the root / main directory. That should setup the index files right.

If you have renamed an indexed file currently, make sure its all in lowercase. Unix is case sensitive, and it will ignore your index file if not in lowercase.

hth,
kross.

I've had a couple site like that and this is how I did it. I've done several using phpBB and one using SMF, both had no issues.

Don't just copy the the folders to the root, install a fresh copy of the BB software (preferably the most current) and then redirect people from the root/forums/index.php to the root/index.php and delete the rest (to save on space). Just make sure you use the same database information.

Establish permanent redirects to optimize the weight of your site in SEs.

This is better:

Quote:
<?php
header("Location: /forums/index.php");
?>
Or permanent redirects in the server config, as suggested.

But why not just change site root to public_html/forum instead of the standard public_html?
