    How would you develop...

I just acquired POLICEMEN.com. If this was your domain, how would you develop it?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions,
    Ken

Perhaps sell 'compare to' police accessories. Police Badges, handcuffs, among other paraphernalia? I'm sure there must be a market for such.

Or, create a forum for police officers. All members (police men) can chat amongst themselves about the daily occurance/weirdest call. Just an overall discussion community for cops to come together.

    Good luck.

Thanks ad-lib for the suggestions. I was considering a forum but I wanted to see what others thought.

    Anyone else?

Great name - as an ex UK policeman I find it very interestinging!
It's very specific, in that at least in the UK policeman means a civil uniformed offer rather than say a security guard in the public or private sector. You wouldn't call a security guard a security policeman (not sure about the US) so it wouldn't directly apply to the security sector IMO.
The following link shows how a similar name is used in the UK and may give some ideas.

    http://www.jobs-policemen.co.uk/

Maybe other areas could be police training, selling products to the police (radar, vehicles, uniform, etc) or an employment site for ex-policemen inc private protection, investigation etc.

    Just some ideas.

Maybe some kind of tribute to Policemen and/or a forum for them.

Well, the US is sometimes referred to the "World's Policemen" but I'm not sure that's the best use or even if you want to go there.

And then there's the "Dress up like a Policeman" and "bust me with your big night stick" thing some people are into.

Come to think of it, that may be the way to go.

A gay site? Seriously, I heard thats IN now

Anyhow, I think forum is a bad idea as youd have bunch of fakes, probably kids acting tough while the real policemen wouldnt even want to discuss things with total strangers..

Sorry I cant give you a better idea, but domain sure is great and if I think of anything else Ill let you know

I host a site for a superior officer's union, and have worked with them to develop their online community system. Because it says "POLICEMEN" and not "POLICEOFFICERS", it does come across a little more "exclusionary" that it could, but ignoring that... I think if you looked in your area, and interviewed some people from the local precinct, you'd find some very interesting ideas for what the needs of this group might have.

I'll PM you the URL, Ken, but I can tell you, some of the things they really appreciate are, especially as a union, being able to post controlled talk-back about events happening with the local government (politics), and being able to post grievances (when members are hurt or lost in the line of duty). Keeping their members informed and related is no doubt a challenge, and the Internet definitely provides a very effective medium for doing that.

I think any well equiped union has got some money to spend on Internet services that help them keep their members connected. Community building tools and a service model like DomainBusiness might be a very lucrative and beneficial project to pull together. Yahoo Groups and things like are their, but most of those services in an effort to address the largest group, may not do as good a job as a niche offering.
