Hello everyone

Im just curious as to everyones opinions on my 'Idea' for an alternative to parking.

I dislike parking because it is basically wasting a domain. When you consider that your 'end users' could actually do something good with it, it seems down right rude to sit on your ass doing nothing.

Anyhow Ive decided that given this, I want to make my good domains decent websites.
My idea of a formula can be seen at MINING followed by the .net extension.
Simple layout, custom personally written content (+ the ability to write more at leisure which then appears under 'Information' on the sidebar), a simple about page, and a list/links to other network sites.

My view is that doing it this way people get the information they want when they come to the page, NOT a load of optimized money making ads.

I do intend to put a few ads on such that it makes me some money, but my main idea is to get these ranked well in google such that people wanting information about Mining get it !

Any suggestions on how to improve the formula, I.E The actual set up of this, and future websites.

No... It uses Wordpress as a CMS, but I don't intend to run it as a blog.

I like the logo, it works even as is.

What is your incentive? To provide content? Then you're almost there.
However, you'll have to fight with Wikipedia or Encarta or Britannica unless you provide something exclusive.

Parking a domain might "waste" it, in the sense that it's not a placeholder for the type of content you put up. However, how do you monetize it?

If the intention is to build simple websites with content related to the keyword and perhaps adsense, you're on track. Because people are visual creatures, you'll need to spice up the graphics so that people do spend some time visiting and reading.

No, Im not trying to compete with Wikipedia or Encarta etc here.
Rather I have these domains that at the moment are doing nothing.

I dont like the idea of them just sitting there, so I thought Id make simple websites containing the information that people would be looking for.

On this site for example, yes a user could get information (and most likely better information) on wikipedia, but wikipedia has everything as such. This website has chosen its topic: 'Mining', and provides information in a simple focused manner.

Thus if you type in mining.net straight away you are presented with what you want... (at least that is the idea).

Nothing is overcomplicated, and nothing is there simply to make money.

Monetizing it.. my view is that i can make more money in the long term by not focusing on making money, but rather giving people what they want. People will appreciate that my website provides good information, and keep coming back...

The way I see it: develop some good names, gain traffic, then sell them.

parking is not working for me as well

I feel bad when I see $1.50 today and they readjsut to $0.03
parked about 500 names and they make 0 to 0.10 per day

I've tried parking, Adsense minisites, my parking system too...my only suggestion is: depends on the domain and depends on the quality of the traffic.

Probably a mix (parking - develop) is better.

Im not quite sure what you mean here.

A few of my domains I am developing into serious, user orientated 'big' websites.

The remainder I simply do not have time to develop in the same way, or I dont feel there is something suitable. This being one of them.

I am not opposed to selling this domain for example, but Im not actively trying to. My ideal scenario is that down the rode, if people want information about Mining they will be able to find my website near the top of google, and all the information they want in one place.

In terms of producing the sites.. I can make one in about 5 minutes, then I research and write the information which takes about an hour (but is actually quite interesting). Hosting is already paid for, and logo design etc is reasonably easy/cheap. In the grand scheme of things it is not hard for me to make this kind of website.

My view is that over time good domains will make there way over to end users at which point they wont be resold. I would like to keep the domains in my portfolio for which an end user is easy to find, simply because I do not need the money, and I feel I can do something good with them anyway..

here is your flaw (short coming)
Staying on top of google need much more than few lines you can write.
your sites are going to be helpful for type in traffic not for Google.

It is very hard to stay on 1st page with little content.

Reasonable point, but assuming I can get people linking to me with the right keywords etc I see little reason why this cant rank well.

If people want to know what mining is, i will tell them... It is not as though what mining is changes, so new content is not always possible..
