I have not tried Drupal. I have used Joomla. It is my understanding that Joomla is a much steeper learning curve.
So I want to learn WordPress. Issues with that? Limitations?

Joomla has a larger development team behind it. However, it's roughly 4 to 6 weeks away from final version 1.5. The new version will have many improvements over 1.0.x
So if you're thinking about moving to Joomla for the experience, download and install 1.5 RC3 - otherwise, wait a bit more. There are some plugins and mods that don't work for the new version yet.
Definitely Joomla... the learning curve is not that bad.... hell even a caveman can do it. But seriously the back end is super and pretty much straight forward. Hell, I don't know a lick of code but found myself dabling with customizing stuff with it because the codes are well explained. It's just a great software with a helpful community.
I used Drupal for one website but i didnt like it.
Joomla has better community and more extensions and templates available.
Drupal on the other hand is better in managing user groups and their acess levels(built in) and can support countless categorization structure(also built in) while Joomla can support only 3 levels; Sections-->Categories-->Items.
Joomla 1.5 is something we r all waiting for, though i dont believe that they will fix(not so soon) those issues.

I was waiting for Joomla 1.5 to be released before doing some projects. It's been quite a wait, so I might experiment with some other options in the next few weeks, before they finally release it.
It's good that they're not rushing things out before it's ready, so I hope it will be a secure and stable release.
I just made a little donation to them via PayPal, so maybe that'll help speed up the release.![]()

joomla for sure. i'm still rolling out sites with 1.0.12 just because i finally got a patched and SEO'd version of the code i love. from ecommerce to blogs to forums, it can all easily be done with joomla.
i hear drupal is better for social networking, but i don't have any experience with it. i have community builder, joomla's primary community component installed on all my sites, but its there more for scalability in the future - i've yet to touch it, so I can't speak to its capabilities.

any ex's of social network sites using Joomla's community builder?
Step 1... I guess is downloading the software?.....which version? and then uploading to domain and start playing with theme/templates.....plugins...etc...?
Drupal just won the 2007 Open Source CMS award. Joomla came in second. Both are great content management systems.
I personally use Drupal for everything I do. (I like to be in full control and mess with lots of PHP) Social Networking is great with Drupal... Examples like MTV.co.uk & observer.com are great examples of what Drupal can do.
I do think Drupal is a higher learning curve. But if you have the skills (PHP skills) and the desire, you can use the Drupal platform to make anything you need.
But again, I stress, both are good CMS options. Each developer will have their preferences. Try them both out, and see which one works better for what you want. (They're both free)
Trying to come up with something witty...
Good information, everyone.
I have done one site with Joomla www (.) ceuq (.) com and am still learning. Lots of bugs to work out. But have already had over 480,000 users this year.
Will be working on developing sponsors for this niche site.
So perhaps I should stick with something I am familiar with, even though I taught myself.
Free is good. We like free.
Thanks Ben! Yeah..I saw that Drupal won the 07 CMS award...that's why i'm contemplating which one to go with....can u share a few ex's of drupal sites u have created? and what portion of these sites are standard template and what portion represents custom tweaking/design/coding that youi have done?
tony
Actually, Joomla won it and Drupal was a runner-up.
