Joomla is good but will take you long to configure it.
Wordpress is much quicker and much easier to work with I find.

What are your comments on Joomla or any other system that you all use that is good.
Wordpress quicker because of upload and configuration ease ?
WP is a snap to install - open up the WP-CONFIG-Sample file w/ Notepad, enter in your database information, save as WP-CONFIG.
Upload, go to the site, enter in email and you're done.

I like wordpress for blogs but do you actually feel it is good for sites ?
Apprciate your opinion
I use it for quite a few sites, it doesn't have to look bloogish. Just look at CNN's iReport.
Get a good template and most people won't know the difference.

a Joomla install from scratch takes about 20 minutes.
HostGator has Joomla, Drupal, WordPress already installed on Fantastico.
I am still learning Joomla but love it.
But it is my understanding that WP and Drupal have a lower learning curve in comparison to Joomla which is harder.
I look forward to trying them all.
At last count, I believe Joomla had about 3500 free extensions, add ons, plug ins, etc and thousands of templates. Usually you can find something for every need.
I think WP is a great program and would recommend it if you are planning on serving a quick 'blogish' content system and some adsense links here and there.
But if you are looking for a true "website" solution, something that will help you publish a multi-site network quickly while not only having the ability to blog and throw up an adsense script. You will also have more control over revenue management by selling you own ads, offering products (affiliate commissions), product reviews, product/review rankings, customer/community user login, newsletter managment, and so much more.
This can all be done using free, open source extensions if its not already built-in. (you can also find paid extensions if you feel you need support here and there.)
One quick tip:
You should only have to learn the installation/configuration once, then by using one of the joomla backup/restore extensions, you can duplicate the installation/configuration over and over again. You will only need an ftp user, MySQL db, and a db admin user for each website.
There is no doubt that there is learning involved, but in my opinion, if you are going to take the time to learn any of these blogging/CMS programs, Joomla is the one that I would focus on.
Trust me, you will be thanking me and anyone else that makes this recommendation.
Good Luck!

I use Joomla for all our sites. If your host has Fantastico you can just click and install it. Find some good skin and start plugging away. Tons of great free components and modules. I have about 25 Joomla sites and build a new one almost everday!!!

Interesting that no one mentioned xsitepro2 ?
Yes, what about xsitepro 2 , actually I like it
Have only one site with non costumized CMS and look what happend today: http://cargamesplayer.com/ - site hacked because of the joomla cms.
Btw if anyone knows about this issue PM me![]()
Is this not something you have to pay for?
I got out of that years ago and now use free open source.
I look forward to using Drupal and Wordpress when I get the opportunity. I understand that they would be much easier to use for basic quick sites and a much less steep of a learning curve.
But with thousands of free templates for Joomla and thousands of free extensions available, it is so hard to let go of Joomla. Every site I make I learn more and more and become better and better.
I will soon read up on creating my own templates but with so many nice one always coming out, hard to think there is not something out there for me.
Now, back to the NFL!
