Looking for ideas on how to re-develop LinkMates.com

Hi All.....

I have been contemplating for some time to do a complete re-develop on LinkMates.com.....Currently it is a website directory.....Looking for creative ideas into what else this site could be......I am leaning towards a social community-type site....any ideas/feedback?

Dating sounds perfect and if it had an Australian focus Mate, maybe...

i currently have it as a web directory.....but i am seriously considering taking it to the next level....either some type of social site....not sure what kind??....or thinking about turning into a sort of site like text-link ads...but directed more towards links...same concept as text-link ads...but more geared towards PR links....any thoughts?

I like a site that is geared toward networking with link exchange....

everyone would go there to exchange or buy links....... could have ratings on members etc.

As "mates" is really either Brit or Aussie, I'd look at dating Tony. Great name.

Thanks Dale....I was thinking more along the likes of roommates....which I do not believe pertains only to Brits or Aussies....no offense...

.....roommates....linkmates....wanting to go global with this one.....not just limiting "mates" to Brits or Aussies....

Quite right! Actually, that is a huge market -- I know it as my son is embroiled in it right now - finding mates to share accommodation. Excellent.

the only draw-back with that is that "link" has nothing to do with roomate search...thats why i was thinking more along the lines of url "link" search...a web-based community for link exchanges....sales...etc...

some kind of social networking / dating / link exchange geared towards webmasters, online marketers, etc. Seems like you can fill some niche with this if you have the resources. People in social/dating sites don't really care about link exchanges, and link exchange sites don't have a social aspect. Find a way to offer something that isn't already out there. It's a nice name to work with. Maybe a focus on small business or home businesses? Create a way for a person with a car tire site to exchange links with someone with a car supplies site, and to socialize about the car industry, online marketing etc. - things they have in common. good luck.

Being connected or getting connected to new friends, mates, pals, old pals etc seem to be the biggest thing right now and you have a perfect domain to "link" all "mates" together. Maybe find a certain niche in the social type area to make it unique.

thanks david.....that's along the lines of what i am envisioning....just what niche could that be?....if i limit the site to "links" (as in webmasters) i leave a huge void....i do not want to strictly limit this to just a site for link trades/buys/exchanges for webmasters...not everybody on the 'net has/owns a website.....but there are a billion people who can be "linkmates"....of some kind....hhhmmm

Well if I was to do it I think I would have a niche that would be every niche. Example
cars.linkmates.com would be an area were people can make categories for certain car groups like me, I would search for BMW people in my area and talk about technical things or how to make them faster.

adults.linkmates.com would be somebody searching to have a good saturday night or trade pictures on private pages.

webmaster.linkmates.com would be an area where they can find webmasters of all sorts.

link.linkmates.com could be the general friend finder type area.

business.linkmates.com
motorcycles.linkmates.com
I could go on....
Would be the niche for every niche out there and not have to search an entire site to find your interest.

Looks like David has it right for the niche branch out, but picking a starting point niche that will generate rev to fund the growth seems to be the question.
