My Google Pagerank is higher than Greg's!

DNForum.com is a '5', whereas Kirikos.com is a '6'. (you need Google Toolbar to view pagerank)

If Greg lets Google crawl this site (would need to make all threads viewable by unregistered users), it would probably end up a 6, 7, or even an 8, though. All those content pages add to pagerank, as do the links to one another. DomainState, which is a lot less active than this site, is a '6', for comparison. SnapNames is a '6', due to lots of links, but less content. Verisign.com is a '9'.

The Pagerank is logarithmic....e.g. a pagerank of 6 is ten times more important than a pagerank of 5.....and a pagerank of 7 is ten times more important than a pagerank of 6. (it's not proven that the scale factor between levels is ten....might be another number).

    Easy ways to improve PageRank?

Hmmm, strangely DomainState *isn't* indexed in Google, i.e. their subjects. I wonder how they rank higher??!!??

    Hmmmm.....

George - you always come up with some interesting stuff.

By the way - does it matter what 'type' of site that people have - in regards to cross linking with you?

George I've already got one of my programmers to give the Google bot registered status.

My Alexa rating is better than yours.

My daddy can beat up your daddy.

But I think I will open it back up for unregistered view. The servers have been running smooth for a few days.

    lol Greg.

NamePopper: I think the rule is that more links help, but links that are in the same category help a lot more. Since they don't document their complete algorithm, it's hard to know for sure.

One thing that is mentioned at: http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html is that "session IDs" can affect whether certain paes are crawled. Sometimes I see the PHP session IDs on DNForum pages, other times not.... actually maybe it's not this forum that has the session IDs, but other vBulletin ones, hmmmm.

George what "keyword" do you want to be found on ?

DnForum for example ranks #1 on the keyword phrase "domain name forum" without the quotes ! and beats 800,000 other pages !

But looks can be deceiving.. this is a perfect example of why people get confused about Google results.. many still think that that means Greg must be getting tons of traffic from that ranking.. in reality not much

NO it cant be true Bid ..look he beat 800,000 pages !

It all comes back to is there a MARKET for "whatever" .. and thats where we need to go back to overture ..

    http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/

and we see only 47 searches for "domain name forums"

I would venture that most of gregs traffic actually comes from the word of mouth route.. from other domain sites....(you dont pipe traffic in from some of your high powered "type-in" domains do you ?)

Word of mouth an excellent source of targeted traffic..!

Yeah I agree George.. links from similiar categories/topic is "supposed" to help your google rank..

I am getting sick of Google and DMOZ though..the cheating, the organized "criminal" IMO anti-buisness laws that are broken by organized crime masters to achive rank is disgusting.. the very idea that you can rank higher by accumulating more links from OTHER webmasters is ludicrous.and ripe for anti-business crimes..DMOZ is the worse ..Lets see ,lets let the criminals run the prison..it's a joke.. if it was just friends helping friends it would be oK.But DMOSZ is DIRECTLY responsible for access to to billions in Revenue/markets--.by by NOT allowing perfectly acceptable busineess in and letting only themslves ,friends and associate sites in they are breaking US anti-business law.. the thing is they think it's not a big deal.. some day they'll know otherwise.. Were talking about billions of dollars in revs that a small group of people are CONTROLING access too.. someday the fraudulent nature of many DMOZ editors is going to hit them very hard...

Sites should be ranked by customers/surfers not other webmasters..

That said, until they fix it..anyone want to trade links D

It´s easy to get good rank on google!.
that does not mean you have good traffic, for example i was on the 10 place on the search word "funk music" but i did not get much traffic. I also have some other pages that have good ranking.

    Google rank

Google Page Rank and Google index rank is two different things. I really doubt you had a page rank of 10 as you would be up there with Yahoo and Google.

I had good page ranking on google.com, 11 place on "funk music" for one of the pages and 5 place on "cd shelves", 2 on "demo tapes" and on "heavy metal music" i was in about 50 place.

    im not lying!

It was my site earsnack.com. It´s not ranking good anymore, i had to change webservers and now im going to change domain name so right now i don´t care about earsnack.com

    Your not understanding

You need to read Georges original post. A Google Page Rank is not the same as the position you are indexed. The Google Page Rank is a ranking alogorithm from 1-10. 10 being the highest best number achievable. Yahoo and Google are 10's, your website www.earsnack.com has a Google Page Rank of 3 which is not that great.

I've always felt that the Google toolbar was some sort of research trojan. Has anyone put a packet sniffer on a computer with it installed?

If you choose so, the Google bar will detect which pages you are visiting. You can turn that option off. Maybe that's what you meant with research trojan? They use that (and other) information to calculate the PageRank.
The PageRank is a pretty cool thing to watch, it gets addicting though
