Cool Need Advice from Web Developers on Hosting and Google

This past week I got an unsolicited email from a volunteer organization interested in purchasing one of my .orgs. They want to develop it as a site for returning injured Iraq war veterans. I quoted them a price in the very low x,xxx, and cited references establishing the value. They told me they could not afford it.

I then came up with the idea of effectively leasing the domain to them free of charge, in return for allowing me to place Google ad links on the pages. This is the first time I have ever dealt with web development. To sweeten the deal, I was going to offer to pay for the Hosting.

From the posts I have seen here, I believe this could be profitable. Can anyone give me an idea as to whether this is a good idea?

They plan to do all the work developing the site. What hosting service company would you recommend, and how much I should expect to pay? I want top notch service, and minimal headaches.

    Thanks in advance,

    SoCalBoy

Lots of good ones out there - unfortunately also lots of not-so-good ones too ...

Here are a few I've looked into for clients -

Not cheap but you get what you pay for:

HTTPme.com (local to you in Los Angeles)
about $30 / month (multiple domains supported) http://httpme.com/plan_page.htm

Pair.com (in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania - check Alexa to confirm that they have superior uptime, fast network - solid old-school provider in business for a long long time ...) - plans from $10 / month and up

FluidHosting.com (in Connecticut - solid network and service)

if you can handle your own Linux system then check out Linode.com - I've been using them since 2003 and they are truly excellent.

Sounds like a good deal to me, you get a developed domain and some revenue, for no effort.
Make sure you are clear with them about the lease terms and period.

There are many,I repeat many great Hosting companies out there. I may not be the voice of the majority but I perfer and have had great results with GoDaddy.com. i have work for ISP before going on my own and have found them to be a great value and support could be faster (never more than 2 hrs.) but have always came out on top over over host I've tried. Again, there are lots of great companies but Godaddy works for me. The one disclaimer is that I'm a IRL fan.
