Newbie question re WordPress & "pingbacks"

I recently posted my first WordPress blog [which is moderated], and today I was notified of a "pingback" to it from the address positive.articleberry.com. Two questions:

    1. Should I generally accept pingbacks? (I just read about them at codex.wordpress.org, and they sound OK, but I want to make sure there are no security or other issues with them.)

    2. Do you know whether articleberry.com is a reliable site?

Thanks (& as always, sorry for being such a WordPress newbie!).

Wow - 73 people have read my question and nobody posted an answer? I know I'm asking a favor, but I don't think it's a big one (and I've sure done my share of favors in other parts of this forum ....).

So, does anybody have advice for me about this topic? Thanks!

I actually have the same question about pingbacks. I also sometimes get little or no response to issues. Getting replies from others is often a problem on the forums for some odd reason which is why I rarely ask for feedback anymore.

pingbacks are pretty much harmless if you don't mind an outgoing link from the page being mentioned. Most of the time the comments are set to rel="nofollow" where the pingback will be displayed on your site. You can also edit the pingback to strip out any link before approving it - one less place to lose valuable visitors.

Pingbacks though are often coming these days from autoblogs. It's a nice way to find them and block them if they are right out ripping your content. Others still are just looking for a backlink from what may be a busy page hoping to glean some traffic or pr juice from you.

Thanks for the reply, whitebark. I will study this issue some more, but you've given me some great info to start with.

Pingbacks are ok if you want to see who linked your content and where. There are services online where you can see all of the linkbacks you have so basically that's not a problem at all.

Whatever you do is fine as long as you use no-follow. There are many reasons why you should use the "no-follow" atribute and you'll have to trust us on that.

I think the pingbacks are spammy and should be avoided.
