    Preferences on Dedicated Server Software?

I am searching for a new dedicated server and am looking pretty heavily at RackShack.net. I was curious about the various server admin software packages.

Who likes what for dedicated server admin software?

I currently have WebMin and do not like it. I have done the online demos with CPanel, Plesk and Ensim.

    Ensim was confusing.
    CPanel was clunky.
    Plesk was easy and intuitive.

By the demos I have tried, Plesk seems to the the winner for me.

Has anybody had adverse experiences with Plesk or are there any personal preferences for CPanel or Ensim over Plesk?

Thanks for your input and opinions.

Combination of WHM and CPanel works fine for me on my standard servers and the Cobalt GUI on my two other Cobalt servers.

I used WHM/Cpanel at my last host and liked it a lot. I am now at Rackspace and they don't offer that, so I am using Plesk.

While it took a little getting used to, I like it a lot. The only thing I can think of that cpanel handled better was bounced e-mail. Since I send a lot of e-mail this is an issue for me.

In Cpanel, any bouced e-mail was directed to the default address on the domain. For some reason in Plesk, I had to determine one address for the entire server that gets bounces from all domains.

However, that is not a major issue, and other than that I have been very happy with Plesk.

If you like plesk, then go for it.

    Most users prefer cpanel though.

    Plesk is more structured.
    Cpanel has more feature.
RS cpanel include fantastico which allow you to install scripts easily.

For me, all cp is the same.
I can use command line tool.

I have used Ensim, Plesk, WHM/CPanel and the GUI on Cobalts. If I were to name a favorite, it would be WHM/CPanel - but Plesk would not be far behind. I also "learned' about servers on the Cobalt GUI, so I guess I will always have an affinity for that. I liked Ensim the least.

If you seem to like the Plesk the best - go for it. Plesk is usually less costly than CPanel.

I do not resell any space, but as a web developer, I manage a few domains for clients - and I have a lot of small sites for a "few" of my own domains.

plesk is the way to go.

i've tried every other control panel, no matter how colorful
or nice they look, plesk is always on top.

excellent control over all domains and accounts with a click
    of a button.

been using it for 2+ years and very happy with it!

His early works include an experimental adaptation of Chekhov’s Cherry Orchard inspired at least partly by Robert Fripp. His totally irrelevant M.Ed. dissertation examines Organizational Culture and Change Management.

Do any of the above control panels allow for automatic updates and installation of security fixes/patches in Linux, Apache, etc? (that's one thing I like about Cobalt RAQ servers)

Thanks guys.. Got my new server with Plesk. The only thing I did not like was that I cannot create one FTP login to manage multiple domains (or at least I have not figured it out due to all of the group and owner permissions). Oh well.. I am happy now.

Thank you for all of the input.
