I suck at designing and I hate writing, but yes, I can write content...so..for those that develop, do you outsource the developing and or the content? Does this work work you or you think otherwise?
If you outsource..do you work with the same person or do you use guru, elance etc etc. Also, how much money should you drop into developing a website? The reason I ask is because yes, you can pay in the millions for a full feldged website, but I mean, if you wanted to make a site to see if you can make money from the various PPC/affiliate programs out there..what would be an initial budget to test the waters...
How much is too much to spend ...obviously if the site makes money, you want to spend more to make it even better, but if you are just trying to see how it works..

What you're asking is an open end question that's difficult to answer and depends on a case by case basis. It would be better if you described what you wanted to do, then myself and others could respond with a solution. Right now, you have the right idea. But solutions for development depend on what you're going to do with a website.
Yeah, i guess you're right...some sites may need membership and a CMS while others just need a template to be slapped on....hmm what I am asking is ambiguous yes, but..ok..what about this.. IF you develop a site..do you find someone to do this for you OR do you do it yourself.
The type of sites I am thinking of are either PPC based sites...memberships, like dating or communities of some sort. For normal websites without membership ..I think for PPC template type sites..costs range from $50-$500 usually.
Maybe my question is bigger than I thought...I should break it down to multiple different posts..haha

There are three ways to do that: the cheap way, the expensive way and the right way. The right way involves consulting with a web design professional who will listen to your intended goals and will facilitate a plan to achieve it per your timeframe and budget. If you can write copy, it might still need to be adapted for SEO purposes but at least it will save you the expense of hiring a copywriter. The content is as important as the visuals so consulting with a company or professional that can achieve both is important.
Content is more important. Usability is good if you are trying to create a monster site and plan on dropping a bunch of money on marketing and advertising - attempting to build a community, repeat visitors. However, if you want people to click on ads and you dont have good type-in traffic, dont worry about what it looks like. All you need to do is make sure the right ads are being delivered, which brings us full circle...
Content.
caveat: the developers code counts too.

As a developer I will tell you that if your web site looks like it came out of a 1995 vault, you're spending your money unwisely. Think "end-user" development, at a smaller scale. If you have a web site with thousands of pages and a unattractive look, you're losing 50% of the visits.
Ok, so say I go and get a website developed...when do I say, ok, I am going to move to the next site. I want to develop multiple sites, but one at a time...how much do I need to do or should I do before I move to the next development project?

The most cost effective way is to learn your own developing skills like Wordpress or Joomla.
I love Joomla but it is not that easy to grasp.
SEO, content, relevant links, and back links are all crucial to success of a site.
Blogging about the site also helps it get indexed and ranked, especially if more than one blogger.
Concentrate on a great designed user-friendly site with good content.
it all starts with the domain name u have, if it has an exact match bonus, the SEO and content on it would be very different from a fresh domain name. Also what r ur intentions. Adsense Revenue, CPA offers,etc...?? How much time can u give it if u want organic traffic from google?
Feel free to PM me if u want any specific advice
