Question Really category KILLER news domain name - How to launch

Lets say you had a 5 letter domain name something along the lines of xxnews.com (replace xx with NY, NJ, PA or any other state in the US). How would you go about launching it?
This is what I was thinking. Digg like site. Users submit news stories and vote. Or is that too overdone already?

Has anyone bought news from associated press and published them?

Any body running a news site?

    Any other opinions?

worldnews -dot-com owns tons of news names, just about the best news names you can think of (like CurrentEvents dotcom etc etc etc). Contact them if you want to sell the name.. I sold a good news name for big bucks to them.

I used to run a couple different news sites. I think the main thing a news site needs more than anything to "make it" is to break a big story and get linked by one of the big ones.
If you can break a big local story, the site will be big...and people will start sending you tips and info and it sort of feeds on itself.

I think the Digg thing is overdone, but overdone things can still be successful.
Remember, the drudgereport was catapulted to eternal fame by just one single story.

The real issue in having a news site is whether you can provide original news and have it be targeted to the type of people you are targetting.

Always potential in news, because there is always new content available every day.
