Search Engine Question

Anybody ever redirect a domain to a similar domain(that doesn't belong to you) that is already popular in search engines?. I wonder if the domain you redirect would find its way into search engines faster. I also wonder if its illegal to attempt something like this.

no - if anything all you would do would increase traffic to the similar domain

the search engine will not track anything on your page other than a redirect

What im thinking though is if you intend on developing a similar site with the same keywords, you could first redirect the domain to that similar site to get into the search engines with a high rank, then just put up your site.

im not 100% sure but I really dont think this would work. If you submit a site which is basically just a redirect to another site it wont do well on the search engines as theres no content - the domain name might get it some traffic though.

Best place to ask is www.webmasterworld.com

I really doubt this would work. I was thinking about it myself as well, but common sense tells you it wouldnt work. First of all - Search engines are getting smarter every day, so it would be really amateur if they would fall for that. And second - Redirect is just redirect and nothing else Its worth just as much as if you would put a normal link to that other site somewhere on yours, and spiders would follow it. It just isnt your site and theres nothing you can do about it

Id be glad if you can prove me wrong though.
