The webmaster of SelfPromotion is not a domainer - but he could have been one of the greatest.
In the site's tools section he published the first list of available list of 3 Letter domains (100s) - and also dictionery words. That was back in 1999 I think. A few days after he published the list all the 3 letter domains were picked up - I was late as usual!
Websites in general are nice vehicles for deseminating and organizing all sorts of useful information. I think Project X could have done well to have its own website. Could have been a nice project if kept together better.
