SMF or phpbb?

Hello
I was just wodering which forums program is easier to insert ads into, smf or phpbb and which one overall is better?

imo phpbb is better because of the availability of mods, and support. Its also easy to install and use.

I used phpbb for a few years before purchasing VB and thought the same thing. It's so simple and plenty of hacks are out there to mod it up

it's funny... I just googled this very title 2 seconds and poof it's right here on DNF.... the god's are favoring me at last! TWith what everyone has said think I'm going to stick with phpbb. I've used it before but never used smf. If it ain't broke why fix it. Thanks!

Punbb / Fluxbb - excellent, easy to modify templates.
Phorum - excellent, scalable, almost as easy to modify templates.

phpbb3 - Awesome features, lots of work customizing themes, unless it's just a color or logo change. Loads & loads of css to work through.

phpBB is great for the basics but if you want addons (which there are more of for phpBB) then expect to do some programming, even if it is copy and paste from a sheet.

SMF is great for management - addons and themes are installed quickly like the current versions of WordPress. I personally love the RSS feed plugin for SMF (which I use on several forums).

i use both smf and phpbb. phpbb is great. SMF has a very easy to use plugin system. they call them Packages.

This is the second time I've posted this in 2 posts, but today I came across vanilla : www.getvanilla.com, an open source forum like I've never seen before. Forum 2.0, and it's only 386kb. Uber lightweight, uber ajax, the code is absolutely beautiful and it works like a treat.

I like PHPBB overall.
The first time i tried SMF because there is SEO friendly URL feature there.
But i guess there is a mod for PHPBB 3, so i'll choose PHPBB

do yourself a favour and make the initial investment into vbulletin and vbseo - take it from my experience, i launched a forum using both scripts in may and average 500-1000 visitors a day now. from 0

indexing has increase to 50 000+ pages, thanks to vbseo friendly script!

its worht the money, i used smf for 1.6 years with all the added mods and did not even come close to vbulletin/ vbseo POWER!

their is no short cuts in developing - DO IT RIGHT or DONT

I have yet to purchase vbseo but think it's time as I have heard nothing but good regarding it's use.

Actually my wife has a small womans health site that I keep up for her so I just haven't gotten around to doing much seo with it at all, despite it running for three years now
