I was wondering if anyone knew of any good software out there to simulate taffic on a website.

    Re: taffic/load testing

Now that I look at my post I reilize that maybe it needs some clarification.
I just had a website developed for me by some freelancers that I expect to have a pretty large amount of traffic (5-50k hits per day). I have in the past had problems with freelancers designing sites that tend to start to fail or get bogged down when large amounts of traffic apear but work fine under normal conditions. Ideally I would want software that sent a great deal of traffic to the website and if possible from many diffrent sources, to test real world conditions the site might face. I don't know if such software exists but if it does I would apreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks in advanced for any help.

If you use Apache, try Apache Bench (AP).
Not very REAL testing but should enough to give you rough estimation.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't have a lot of confidence in these sorts of tests. I was wondering if there where anything that could simulate real world enviroment more accurately. For example a program that where to use proxies to send a lot of hit's to the site and simulate real traffic. If anyone has any ideas at all I would be very thankfull.

I could set you up a PPC campaign to send you some traffic but you'd be looking at a minimum of 5c a click
