In the future make sure you state the terms of any deals you do in writing so there's no misunderstandings later on.

Yes, this is very common. I can see how there might have been misunderstandings on both sides. Business is business and time is money so make sure you always get it in writing.

Good Luck to both and hope you find common ground as business men.

So we discussed the project and agreed to a $950 project cost and $95 upfront for a mockup to work off of. After the mockup was finished i soon lost my job and asked him to put the project on hold. In the meantime i asked if I could market for him and take a 15% commission off any work i sent his way, so he agreed. I got him one job for roughly $700. He was paid for the project in full and began working on it. Soon after he claims the client "disappeared" and stated I would not be paid until the project was finished. I have been on his case for months about how he has the money for the project and he should give me my cut (only about $90). He continues to refuse payment every time i speak with him and tells me i need to get a job and stop begging for money? lol.

(Took out chat convo.. couldn't fit it on here...) I think you get the point though.

Here is an interested comment he made however:

tnorrisdesign (10:52:19 PM): is it ok if I resell the design then?
Hiveon (10:52:28 PM): yeh go for it
    tnorrisdesign (10:52:31 PM): ok great
Hiveon (10:54:40 PM): well... if i get what i paid you for the mockup.. that doesnt make much sense for me to pay for a project and then have someone else benefit from it
tnorrisdesign (10:55:49 PM): yeah, it's called an administrative fee
tnorrisdesign (10:55:53 PM): you can learn more about them here
    tnorrisdesign (10:55:56 PM): one second
    Hiveon (10:56:02 PM): lol w.e.
Hiveon (10:56:19 PM): dont wana hear ur crap...
tnorrisdesign (10:56:53 PM): how is it crap?
tnorrisdesign (10:57:05 PM): just because I want to get paid in return for work I do doesn't make me an asshole dude
Hiveon (10:57:15 PM): right back at you...
    tnorrisdesign (10:57:21 PM): ??
Hiveon (10:57:22 PM): wheres that $9x
Hiveon (10:57:36 PM): i didnt market for you for nothing
tnorrisdesign (10:57:45 PM): I don't know where the client went dude
tnorrisdesign (10:57:48 PM): I told you
Hiveon (10:57:50 PM): well u have the money
Hiveon (10:57:55 PM): its not like he's getting it back
tnorrisdesign (10:57:55 PM): when the client was happy, I would pay you
    tnorrisdesign (10:57:57 PM): you agreed
Hiveon (10:58:13 PM): lol show me when i agreed to that
Hiveon (10:58:23 PM): other than after the fact kus i got tired of listening to u
tnorrisdesign (10:58:37 PM): you need a job dude
tnorrisdesign (10:58:42 PM): you're too bitter begging for money

Explain to me how asking for money I am owed is begging?

BTW my reason for posting this is to show you how dishonest this designer is... I do not expect to get the money I am owed.
