    .US Rankings

Just put together a small site less than a month ago to see how difficult it would be to get a .US ranked. Regged the name Jnauary 14th, put it online January 19th. Today I discovered it's #1 on Yahoo already! (at least here in the U.S.) Nothing in G or MSN yet, but keeping my eyes on it. It's a three word name, with only about 9,900 searches a month for the term, per google's keyword tool.

Which leads me to wonder if the search engines are beginning to, or have been providing geo results based on the origin of the country you're searching from. (other than geo targeted ads).

The longer the domain and multi-worders combined with lower number of searches make it relatively easy to rank #1 for a term.

Re the extension, I don't think G normally cares what the ext is as far as rank goes but agree it's possible they may do that with CC's based on geo results. But it also seems like they woud be less likely to do so with .us since .com is the defacto standard for the U.S. where the tld does not seem to matter.

see if you are are competing with a .com and .net being developed sites.
if they are then you are doing good.

if they are parked sites, you are bound to be the #1

I *am* competing with the .net & .org, not the .com. But, yes, that's part of the strategy. I have no problem spending a couple of hours developing a site to compete against parked names when I know it will be easy to get their search engine traffic, whatever the extension.

Of course, for the ROI, I'm doing much better than any of them

That has always been my contention. But that's one of the reasons I'm testing the .US. Mostly curious to see how it fares regionaly/geographically.

    Appreciate the responses/input all!

For some time now google give higher SERPS for ccTLD's on searches done within that country, so, for businesses offering there products or services within the US, a .us domain is more valuable than a .com

And that is what is going to be in the future and other search engines will follow it. I see it more clearly here in my country, when i'm competing ccTLD's with gTLD's for local searches, the ccTLD always take the lead. I thnik for local companies the better choice is ccTLD.

Update - #1 on yahoo now of 93,000,000 results! At least here in the U.S. Too new for google yet. Hand regged it less than a month ago. Content is minimal, it's only 1 page. I think I'll keep on my .US development binge.

Edit: It's also #1 (yahoo) for a different term with 32.5 million results.
