Using Widgets to promote a website???

Has anyone successfully created thier very own widgets that users could paste into places like myspace, facebook, and all other big social networks along with other profiles etc?..

What I mean is for instance We've created an image that includes a code link which actually embeds really nicely into social network sites and people's profiles.. each user gets a site widget of thier own which links to their profile.

    Anyone else try this method?
