What are the ethics for mirroring?

If I wanted to mirror another site until mine has been designed, presumably I should ask the site owner for permission?

I have always in the past requested permission to use links to other sites.

Similarly if I just pointed or redirected my URL to theirs?

Is this a grey area or is it accepted as fact that one can do these things anyway or definitely not as it is a form of piracy. Please give me some feedback on the ethics or legal position of these actions.

Re: What are the ethics for mirroring?

Even though I wouldn't personally recommend doing it, if you must, I would definitely request written permission from the owner.

Re: What are the ethics for mirroring?

I personally won't recommend mirroring to anyone, these things can be done but it is always better to get prior permission to avoid any trouble in future.
