Smile You Have a category killer domain name - Do you launch an e-commerce site?

I have some and I am right now just sending traffic to affiliate sites.
But really really thinking of venturing into actually selling stuff.
Shopping cart is not an issue because I have couple I am familiar with.

What have been your experience from switching to an blog or something with affiliate links to an actual e-commerce site?

Get ready to spend money on adwords! Good conversion is only about 2 percent. Organic traffic helps but it's not a guaranteed cash machine. Sometimes advertisements make more than actually selling the 'stuff'.

Try this company to get your feet wet www.volusion.com It's easy to set up and you don't have to be super technical.

Are you making money with the site now?

And is it really a category killer?

Can the name stand on its own, draw traffic being already keyword rich, and require no branding whatsoever?

You can explore the opportunity of becoming a dropshipper (which is what most of the online ecommerce sites are these days unless they are a big corporation). The prices offered to you as a dropshipper always depend on the amount of business you can bring to the company. The more business you can offer, the better price you get, henceforth the more competitive you can be with your prices. Take a look on eBay after you can get a fair estimate of what price you can sell products for. If you can't come close to eBay prices, then its not worth it imo.

    Good luck

Kind of a tangent, but according to some people PPC traffic converts substantially better than organic traffic:

    FWIW.

Pick the one most likely to have success, once that's up and running how you like it, it will be easier to do the others. Consider things like how much traffic the name gets, how easy it is to get products, profit margin, existing competition. You can still put adsense and affiliate links on some of your pages as a back up, though it might not look as good and confuse people.

The domain I am thinking of launching is definitely a category killer.
I have done some research and according to many sources like adwords, wordtracker etc. its has a search volume of upwards of 100k just in US.
    Gets good type in also.
Name is as generic as if people were searching for yellow cows, its www.YellowCows.com.

Some people have started using these guys to set up an online shop

    http://www.datafeedr.com/

Advantages are it's quick and fairly low cost. You could also start a site from scratch that would look more original, maybe others with more experience in this could comment.

How do search engines treat these datafeedr sites that all look the same?
