To make matters worse, for international transfers many banks use intermediate banks that can also tack on fees. In fact the bank I use for wire transfers themselves charge no fees for incoming or outgoing wires but in the case of international wires there would be fees due to the intermediate banks.
When I was in UK my bank charged me about $10 for receiving a wire but this did not always happened.
I think there an option when sending one so you can pay for all fees involved. Sending and receiving. I will try and find out.
I have the suspision that it was father's fault I got charged with the $10. When I got money from my mother it was always exactly what she send me.
