Register Today on DNForum IT'S FREE!Today will see Netherlands vs Slovokia at 10am (ET). I think Slovokia has surprised many up to this point knocking off some decent teams in Group A play. But I think the Dutch will take this match in the end in what may be a very physical game. I like the Dutch (my nephew was on their youth team) and naturally would like to see them do well. Problem is, I like too many of the teams.
The later game today (2:30 pm ET) is going to be superb! Chile takes on Brazil. Brazil's goaltender has the reputation of being the best in the world. Having watched Chile in a couple of matches leading up to this game, I have been very impressed with their attacking mode and what seems to be full steam ahead on every play. However, the Brazilian team has got to be the odds on favorite to be in the finals. It will be interesting to see if Chile can continue to spread out the defense and take advantage of some holes opening up. They'll have to score and perhaps score often to keep up with the Brazilian strikers. Frankly, I hope they show many of the Samba commercials during this match.
The MONSTER game I mentioned coming up tomorrow is Portugal and Spain. For me, this is a tough call and I like both teams. I have to give the edge to Portugal on this venue even though Spain was an early favorite coming into this tourney. Portugal did not lose in its group but also was scoreless ties against Brazil and the Ivory Coast. Even though they poured it on North Korea with 7 goals, I think that was just a warm up. I have not been too impressed with Spain up to this point and thought they played sloppy against Switzerland. They did defeat Chile which I think is a very good attacking team. Either way, this is the SUPERBOWL of the Iberian Peninsula and should be a match worthy of a finale match-up.
