Zidane was an amazing player, so...
Very poor game from the French, but not that surprising

I think it is pretty cool (and a bit nostalgic) that South Africa scored the first goal in this world cup.

I hope South Africa can build up on the momentum after game 1. They've also got the home advantage working for them.

Talking about France, the team depends a great deal on Thiery Henry, Anelka and Ribery. If they can't convert plays into wins, I fear France might not even make it to the 2nd round.

Mmmm, wouldnt say Henry and Anelka are good assets anymore. Both should stay on the bench and Gignac play as a lone striker. For what is worth

I really haven't followed Gignac. Is he that good of a striker? US vs England in a few hours. Oh snap!

I think Nigeria could have pulled off a tie with Argentina.

True. One the other hand, Argentina could have pulled off a 4-0 victory.

No one in Ireland is crying for France, since they got through on a handball from Thierry Henri in their match against us. OK, the boys in green shouldn't have been in the position of needing that last match, but it was still a sickener. Ironic then that the French weren't awarded a penalty against Uruguay for an obvious handball.
