Exclamation Co-location recommendations? Hardware & Host?

I'm contemplating co-location so I can have more control over my server, but was wondering what hardware, apart from the server, I will need to provide?

Was thinking of getting a server at Dell, but need to know what else is required so I can purchase everything at once. Any server/hardware recommendations?

I'm also looking at various co-location hosts and your recommendations in this regard are also welcome.

Thanks.

We're with (And have been since 2000) http://www.inetu.net/

And, unless I'm missing something, you just need the machine.

INetU does work well with Dell, but lately I've been having them custom build machines for me within their hardware group.

Good luck!

Colocation is generally a bad idea unless you're 15 minutes or less away from the datacenter (and even then, it's probably not wise). It's better to get a dedicated server, and not worry about hardware issues.

Re: Co-location recommendations? Hardware & Host?

I have a windows box with enterhost out of Texas. I have been there for a few years now and it does what I need for $180/month. I have 6 full time website ecommerce maintenance accounts hosted on it that pays the fee for it...

Then I get to load up php, mysql, and all the goodies I need for my own fun time!

It basically includes unlimited bandwidth, critical updates, 1 hours break/fix service for HD failure (hasnt happened yet) yada yada yada... Smartermail, SmarterStats, pretty much everything everyone else has to offer.

I have been hosting my own inhouse ecommerce sites on my own server for 9 years - been through 3-4 places and thus far, i like this one the best.

not the cheapest - but sometimes saving 30-40 / month comes with a cost!

Thanks,

Mark

Try http://www.virtbiz.com out of Dallas. I've been using them for several years. Fantastic support. I had two Cobalt servers and now it is cheaper to just use one of theirs.
