Question hosting

if you were to decide to go with hosting your domains. Do you pay the hosting fee based on one domain or multiple domains not exceeding a limit? do they show you how to build a site?

Some will offer templates, maybe even set up an extremely basic site. It would be better to set up a basic Wordpress site (with a good free template).

As for the domains, it depends on who you're with and what service you sign up for. GoDaddy hosting has a limit for lower plans but have ones that offer unlimited. HostMonster is unlimited. There is one that is per domain *but a great deal for just a few domains - I forgot who that is, though).

check out Hostgator (preferred and use) and hostingzoom and/or resellerzoom, have in the past but Hostgator is all I need these days.

They do addon domains, allow you to park names on top of each other, some have unlimited domains. Reseller accounts give you your own web hosting admin panel to set up individual plans for your domains.

I don't know why everyone here keeps recommending hostgator. Ya Brent is a good guy but if you truly care about your profits and domains why are you going bottom of the barrel. Must be the affiliate commissions.

Hostgator must be doing something right if "everyone" is recommending them.

But more specific to my experience with them it has been very good at a low cost.

Good support, no down times, backed by "the Planet"

Who are your suggestions and why.
I'm always looking for better, TIA

btw, no affiliate link to HG in my post.

Have you or do you know of anyone who has used their free templates they offer?

I have used them for over a year and have no problems or complaints what so ever.

I am not an affiliate and did not know such a thing existed.

Thank for the tip.

The only others I would consider are LunarPages and BlueHost (?).

When looking for a host for my sites, seeing that I was in Joomla I searched the forums for who the recommendations were.

If these are the top three recommended by Joomla users and WordPress users they must be doing something right.

The obvious question here is - who are your recommendations?

Which templates? The re-banding of their cpanel using a reseller account?
That's the only stuff I have tinkered with but haven't re-skinned the whole thing. I'm the only one who really ever goes into cpanel & do all the backend work for my clients. They trust me to do what the need, and I do , so they would never need to look at it. Although, I'm expanding and will do full X skin with my brand when the time comes.

The affiliate sign-up is through CJ. The payout is good & cookie is 60 days.
That is if it doesn't get link-highjacked or scrubbed from the end-user's machine.

I recommend companies that don't do things like steal your traffic, put ads on your 404s, monetize you misspelled hostnames etc. Companies like www.medialayer.com, www.asmallorange.com and www.downtownhost.com

There are a ton of templates appearing in my cpanel for use. Have not really dug into them too deep.

As for doing the backend for clients and trust issues...gee, the one and only time I ever permitted this, the person setting up the site used my email account associated with the domain name to be used for spam by several of his spammer associate buddies.

Next thing I know, I am getting an email from HostGator telling me my account had been closed.

I had paid 2 years in advance and lost it all.

Only after a long protracted telephone conversation did I get the account reinstated and after records had shown that I had not logged into my account in months before all of this.

Plus, I did not even know what the hell a cpanel was at the time.

And wouldn't luck have it that the person who did this for me is a member on this forum.

People just do not realize that trust is the number one rule in a client relationship.

Yes, I had paid someone to build a custom site and install it for me.

That is what I ended up having to do so I would not loose my investment and the money paid for hosting.

Are you talking about the switch themes and all those in the drop down?

I am speaking of having the words, header, images of Cpanel not be there at all and everything that shows any kind of Cpanel/hostgator replaced with my skin and my brand done through the WHM (resellers account). They would never need to know I am a reseller, but I do disclose that. They often don't care and feel good they never have to deal with any of it. The extra cost is worth it to them and I know my way around all the interworkings of the backend based on how I set things up so it's smooth and easy for me to work.

As for email they could never use my email address coming from their domains. They could do a hack and send it through another sever, so it looks like my email, but each client would have their own account, billing, Cpanel which I could set how many db, emails, bandwidth and space, etc. They would never ever have access to my main domain or the WHM. Any trouble they give in one click I can suspend their accounts or terminate it altogether.

As for my clients they never heard what the hell a Cpanel is either...lol, hence I do all the set-up for them. For design work (others, that I do not host myself) I don't need access to anything other than ftp and/or a user name and password for running scripts, WP, joomla or anything requiring a db. No need to ever go into the Cpanel unless they do not know how to set those things up themselves and pass me the info. Well, if they hand me a .tar ball then I will need to upload and unpack in the file manager, but that is rare.

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience...and from a member here, ouch.

I have tried several different hosts and honestly I love hostgator. I have absolutely no problems with them at all. I have had a couple issues with the hosting being slow or down but it usually is resolved within a matter of minutes.

They also offer good support in my opinion. And the free templates are a nice bonus.

Have you used the free templates and if so do you have a link I can view?

Those templates are new to me and are not in my Cpanel, any of them.
All Cpanel under my accounts do not allow for those choices as things are currently setup.

Thanks for pointing that out!

I really can not swear they were there with the old cpanel version.

I first noticed them in the new installed version.

Ah I see them now.
My account expressly does not allow for my users to choose them. I maintain full control over what template is shown in all individual accounts under my reseller plan. I can choose & set them from within WHM if a client wants one at anytime, or set any of those as a default while setting up a new hosting account.
