I am a relative newbie but have nearly 2000 domain names. Ultimately I want to set up an IML "network" of sites, inter-related multi level. Invariably I will need to have about 600 plus sites "live".
So what are the issues involved in being your own host - I imagine having a dedicated server would be the main requirement?
Looking for feedback please.

I would say absolutely. You can control how much bandwith and space they need. You can adjust many of the settings right away if something needs to be changed. I would recommend getting a dedicated server for yourself. If you do not know how to do everything either hire someone to manage it for you or teach you how to do it. I have a dedicated server through host gator and absolutely love it. I always had issues where permissions needed to be enabled, or setting changed etc and if support is not available its a pain.
IMO
