Using Ulead PhotoImpact 8, can't seem to get the .jpg files smaller than about 90K, which I feel is too large. Ulead PhotoImpact won't take it below a 10% compression even though it enables you to request lower settings. With the camera taking pictures on the highest image settings, the smallest I can compress the .jpg's is about 195K, so at least it's an improvement.
If I were using something like PhotoShop, could I get the .jpg's substantially smaller than 90K? Is 90K actually not bad? Is it simply the camera? What about other software options besides switching to PhotoShop for this purpose? Thanks in advance.
PhotoShop will do it, as well as Paint Shop Pro.
Cogito, ergo sum!
I use xat.com Professional Image Optimizer
Post an image and I'll compress it so you can see the difference
yes..its pretty impressive specially the Clean / De-Noise and color correction features.

I'm not sure you're going to like your results. 1.7 megapixels is 1600x1064. Any photographic image that large at maximum JPEG compression is still going to require around 90k.
Perhaps what you need to do is first use ULead to crop or resize your image, then save it. This will reduce the resolution to something more reasonable for web distribution, (i.e., 640x480). This will help you achieve the file size you desire without creating essentially a very blurry image.

Just managed to get back to this thread, and I want to thank all of you for these responses - I really appreciate it.Originally Posted by FLe8
I'll give the suggestion about Ulead above a try. In the meantime, since 1.7 megapixels starts out so large to begin with, how would I go about with a smaller starting point? How do other people do it? Are there special cameras for this? Thanks again for any further input.
If you need to resize one image, you can do this inside of Ulead before you save. If you need to modify a large number of images before opening them (will save a lot of time), I recommend Photographer's Power Tools. See http://www.justrightclick.com/ for more information.

at such high resolution you can't expect your image to be compressed eblow 90 kb without loosing the quality.
